Ez folks,
I've been trying to program a good sub bass on Sylenth1. Initially I've used just Osc A set to sine waves at -2 octave, with some Pitch envelope modulation. I must say I am struggling to get the sub to cut through my mix. Could anyone give me any tips for strengthening up my sub? or perhaps an example preset would be useful?

Dial in some drive and maybe just a little bit of distortion.

Sine Wave or Square Wave typically are the way to go for sub-basses
add Compression (Plug-In).
Don't forget to cut everything below 30Hz to avoid a "swamp" of sub bass ruining your mix. This something you can do on the stereo-mix track.

Always keep your sub bass mono and keep it simple. Use 1 sine voice for the main sub and use mono legato mode. You can then color it to your likings using the second part. Add a soft bandpass filtered (square) wave for example, or add some drive/distortions to add some extra harmonics to it. Do not use any master effects other than maybe a bit of distortion. Set Retrig On on all oscs you use. Add a bit of Release to the Amp Env to make it smooth.
