Funny how some of the graphics look straight off the Sonnox stuff. I realize he helped make them, but isn't that their look now?
All about compressors (links broken: sorry!)

Thanks! Me too. Hopefully someone's kicking around their office during the holidays...

Looking at the video, it reminds me of something that seems to be along the lines of what one might be able to do with the Voxengo Soniformer.SWAN808 wrote:Hi bManic - any thoughts on this:

I'm not a Waves user, as I'm "stuck" on UA stuff...and who could blame me?bduffy wrote:If I may...
Personally, I'm a big fan of Waves, especially their newest "vintage modeled" bundles, such as JJP, API, and SSL; but I also really enjoy their Rennaisance Compressor, Rennaisance Vox and the L2/L3 series. The L2 is amazing for transparent limiting on tracks, and doesn't really use much CPU on modern machines. In fact, they're all pretty good for CPU.robertozero wrote:Got 2 questions...
- What about Waves compressors? Are they good?
My current favorite is the JJP Puigchild 670 (Fairchild emu); it's kind of a shame that it's Waves, because it would really satisfy a lot of KVR memebers' dreams for "character" compression. I can provide samples, if you like.![]()
However, now that you've joined the (UAD) club, I'm surprised that you can pull yourself away from the UAD Fairchild/LA2-3!
Please be reminded: UA was the first one to nail these buggers; put the L2 out quite a few years, ago. Everyone else is just trying to match them. I find the UAD L2 to be absolutely indispensable and it hardly touches my CPU/Card. Of course, there are 4 versions: 2 stereo (lite/reg); mono (lite/reg).
I've got nothing to sell...am I on the right site?

Earlier in 2008 we (me ) had comprehensive test between the waves and uad fairchild emulations (based on accoustic guitar). I'm sorry i can't post the examples as its with copyrighted material.
Personally, i think waves did a great job but UA still holds the ground.
Other comments where a bit more blend, but i recall that UA's version was favored a tiny bit, even from some of the producers and mix-engineers who have bought the Waves.
But in the end - it doesn't matter what you choose of them. I love UAD, but mostly use it for the precision series or the 1176ln.

God, no one. The UAD stuff is insane, and I do see what all the hoopla has been about. I'm only using one Waves product right now, and we all know what that is.ughnonumus wrote:I'm not a Waves user, as I'm "stuck" on UA stuff...and who could blame me?bduffy wrote:If I may...

"LA2-3"? Sorry: do you mean the LA-2A or the LA-3A?ughnonumus wrote:However, now that you've joined the (UAD) club, I'm surprised that you can pull yourself away from the UAD Fairchild/LA2-3!![]()
Again, your shorthand is confusing me: "L2"? Do you means Waves L2 or LA-2A, or something else?ughnonumus wrote:Please be reminded: UA was the first one to nail these buggers; put the L2 out quite a few years, ago. I would love to hear this shootout, although, at the end of the day, my ears may not be golden enough to call it either way.fjolle wrote:Earlier in 2008 we (me ) had comprehensive test between the waves and uad fairchild emulations (based on accoustic guitar). I did spend some time A/B-ing with Waves' and UAD's Fairchild 670's, and, honestly, I was prepared to shell out for the UAD 670 if it was significantly better; but really, I didn't hear anything life-alteringly better.
They were a bit different - and I guess some of this has to do with the Waves stuff being modeled after Puig's specific models? - but I could get them resonably close, and there is simply something about the JJP 670 that I just love. Probably just a matter of what fits your expectations the most.*
*That, and the fact that I spent $400 on it.

So, really, if you didn't A/B and had you not already spent your $400 (you're like a living ATM these daysbduffy wrote:I did spend some time A/B-ing with Waves' and UAD's Fairchild 670's, and, honestly, I was prepared to shell out for the UAD 670 if it was significantly better; but really, I didn't hear anything life-alteringly better.

In theory! For all I know, the Cubase compressor sounds better.eduardo_b wrote:So, really, if you didn't A/B and had you not already spent your $400 (you're like a living ATM these daysbduffy wrote:I did spend some time A/B-ing with Waves' and UAD's Fairchild 670's, and, honestly, I was prepared to shell out for the UAD 670 if it was significantly better; but really, I didn't hear anything life-alteringly better.

Yeah, I know about the ATM...I sound like a total pig. But it's all for commerce! I am personally saving Vancouver from the recession.

But its true, the differences are quite minor. No matter which of them you choose, you'll get a great tool. Also as said, some of the producers who listened voted in favour of the waves

Ah yes! I explored this a little bit, thanks for reminding. I'll make some play-time probably tomorrow. It demands some in-depth exploring, this one.SWAN808 wrote:any news on this?bduffy wrote:Just got my license downloaded. I'll install it and get back to y'all.
