Slightly OT but if you're lucky you can sometimes get stuff off Amie Street quite cheaply as long as its not too popular. e.g. the Christina Carter album is currently $1.90

Sea Shanties looks like its currently out of stock in all the usual high street webstores over here, I'll have to search a bit deeper later. Thank for the link SV, as its not a group I've ever come across before.Voidoid Surrealist wrote:Their first two albums are absolutely golden. They did some interesting stuff later on in the '70s, and Tony went on to play with Hawkwind, but they never managed to capture that same level of intensity that they had in '69 and '70.Az're-ul wrote:Nice and with bands like Wooden Shjips, OM, okay the whole Holy Mountain label list strangely sounds quite contemporary.Voidoid Surrealist wrote:High Tide — Futilist's Lament
The guitar solo at the end of Saneonymous is one of my absolute favorites.

Flower Travellin' Band — Satori, Part I
Been on a bit of an early hard rock kick tonight.
They were probably the first hard rock group to come out of Japan, and certainly one of the earliest bands to release a Black Sabbath cover.

Hard to pick a fave, but if forced to, I'd say that was their best album. "Anxiety Hangover" is such a devastating track…Az're-ul wrote:againAz're-ul wrote:EYEHATEGOD - Dopesick

Definitely, I'd forgotten how good it was though. Haven't listened to it in about 5 or 6 years and have now listened to it about 10 times in the last week.Voidoid Surrealist wrote:Hard to pick a fave, but if forced to, I'd say that was their best album. Careful… next thing you know, you'll be breaking out the Grief and Buzzov*en, and things can only get worse from there.Az're-ul wrote:Definitely, I'd forgotten how good it was though. Haven't listened to it in about 5 or 6 years and have now listened to it about 10 times in the last week.
Haha… yeah, that's usually how I get suckered in, as well. Sabbath's contemporaries Iron Claw were known to cover them live, but IIRC, Flower Travellin' Band was the first band to actually release a Black Sabbath cover. The albums to look for are Anywhere (1970) and Satori (1971).Az're-ul wrote: I wish you hadn't mentioning Black Sab as I'm going to have to check this out as well now
Anywhere is pretty much a cover album (it has the cover of "Black Sabbath", and an excellent rendition of "21st Century Schizoid Man"), but Satori is their real masterpiece— a true gem of progressive proto-doom.
Their later material is great stuff, but it's a lot mellower and more prog oriented. Unfortunately, their recent reunion was a bit of an uninspired flop, IMO, so don't judge them by any recent performances.
