Direct Install Sample Libraries - Must use DI?

I have Komplete 5 on my MacBook Pro and am finally getting around to using Direct Install to toss it on my Receptor Rev C. My time isn't all that valuable, but I can think of a few things I'd rather be doing than waiting for sample libraries to be read off of my installer DVDs for Kontakt 3, Akoustik Piano, Elektrik Piano, and Battery 3, and changing each DVD as it goes. Is there any reason I can't simply drag the sample libraries from my external hard drive onto the Receptor's hard drive (in the appropriate folders, of course), leave for work or a long weekend, and come back and see a job well done?

Update - I just spoke to Muse tech support and they said that this should work with all but Elektrik Piano. I will try tonight and post my results.

Update - Last night it took me only 90 minutes to copy the whole sample library for Kontakt 3 over to my Receptor and, to my delight, it looks like it's working perfectly this morning! I haven't gone through any extensive testing, but when Kontakt 3 started up I had it scan the Receptor hard drive and build the database. Loading and playing sounds works fine. Full disclosure - one slightly weird thing: I compared the two sample library folders last night (i.e. the original and the one that I copied), and while both contained the same number of files, the one on the Receptor was shown as being ~56 gb and the one on the MacBook's external drive was ~33 gb. I have no clue why that occurred.
I then tried to perform the same feat with Akoustik Piano but obtained less fantastic results. I copied the Akoustic Piano sample library from my external drive (successfully installed there when I originally put Komplete 5 on my MacBook Pro) to Receptor's drive in the "Sample Library" folder in Native Instruments's folder under "Program Files." I then loaded Akoustic Piano and got an error message that the default configuration could not be loaded. Here's the tricky part: when given the option to select a folder where the Akoustic Piano samples were located, the Receptor would freeze up as I was scrolling throught the Finder trying to locate the samples. I didn't time this but it felt like 10 seconds; this happened three times in a row, and each time I had to forcibly shut-off the Receptor by holding down the power button on the front panel. Anybody have any ideas about how to get around this?

Update - using Kontakt 3 to load and play Akoustik Piano's instruments (i.e. .nki files) works well on Receptor. I haven't gone through and checked that any and all functionality is there, but the sound certainly plays (I tried "Bechstein Bach" last night and it worked). I plan to try other sample libraries later on.
Akoustik Piano is still having the same "time-out" / "freeze up" problem as described earlier. Any help as to how to get around this would be greatly appreciated - all I need to know is how to prevent Akoustik Piano from freezing up while I'm trying to direct the program to the correct location of the sample library.

After MANY, MANY hours, I finally have the Native Instruments stuff up and running on the Receptor. I am waiting for a new ser # for Elektrik Piano, so I haven't been able to try that yet. But Akousitc Piano, Kontakt and the rest appear to be working great, and I'm delighted.
Here is some of what I have learned, mostly by trial and error, dumb luck, and a litlle help from this forum. I think Muse Research needs to revise their instructions for the Direct Install of Komplete (at least for Mac users). Otherwise, there is going to be a tremendous amount of wasted time and frustration of their customers.
Basic problem seems to be that the installer DVDs lack some little id flag or something that allows them to be recognized by the Receptor Remote on a Mac. So, as soon as the installation process requires a disk swap, one is screwed: the installer disk may get stuck and the next disk won't be recognized even if one were able to insert it. The given instructions work for every thing that is on the 1st Komplete Installer disk: the plugins (Akous Piano, Kontakt, etc) and the Sample Libraries for Elektrik Piano. The sample libraries for AkousPiano may be copied from the DVDs (to C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\Sample Libraries). When, I did the same for Kontakt, I noticed that only the Z-Samples files were there. So I just copied the Kontakt 3 Library from my installation on the Mac. This not only worked, but took about 5% of the time as copying from DVDs (I presume it would also work for AkousPiano, but I hadn't thought of that until after I had copied each instrument from DVD at 1hr+ per. Copying the Kontakt Library from the Mac took about 90 minutes total. Then I applied all of the "patches" for each plugin (3 for each) with Direct Install, rebuilt Kontakt DB, and voila!

Thanks for the feedback - this is very helpful.rkasher wrote:The given instructions work for every thing that is on the 1st Komplete Installer disk: the plugins (Akous Piano, Kontakt, etc) and the Sample Libraries for Elektrik Piano. Did Akoustik Piano work for you after copying these files from the DVDs to the Receptor HD without applying any patches, or did you have to apply the patches before you had any success? See my experience above w/Akoustik Piano - I tried to copy the sample libraries from my external HD (successful install on my MacBook Pro) to the Receptor HD and got a weird result w/Akoustik Piano freezing up and unable to locate the files.
Also, completely agreed that the install instructions should be revised so that users don't have to waste time copying from DVDs when sample libraries are already successfully installed elsewhere on their systems.

No freezes in AkousPiano. Had to prod to "find missing files" to load the pianos in Kontakt. Don't know whether it was related and don't know what is in the "patches", but after applying them, things loaded faster and without any intervention in both AkousPiano and Kontakt. That also seemed to fix all of the Bank and Patch registrations of all the other programs in Komplete 5.

Ok, thanks. I will try your method and report back. I had a bit of trouble installing the patches through Direct Install so thought I might try to download all the Windows updates from Native Instruments's website. Any clue how to install them on the Receptor outside of the Direct Install program?rkasher wrote:No freezes in AkousPiano. Had to prod to "find missing files" to load the pianos in Kontakt.
