Hi VSTinus,

I'am runnning XP Sp3 language Dutch to...so that cannot be the problem. For the info, I'm running XPPro.
- Perhaps you should disable some services or processes running in the background?

Hi, Yes several customers can run on Dutch XP but then many others could not!
We have no idea why at this moment but as all the developers are back form Holidays next week I think this will be sorted out quickly.

Maybe it is something to do with Language packs, I am not sure.

+1

Please, please, please... :hail:
I'm definitely buying more ram and I am willing to pay $ for the cpu upgrade, if it is at all possible to upgrade, those mini motherboards are very tied to the chip, IMHO would be an issue, but maybe I am wrong, I hope !! 8)
What you be willing to pay? $200 $150 $100 for double the power?
Considering that I already spent 500 Euros (about 650 USD) for the "basic" V-Machine, I wouldn't spend more than 100 Euros for the expansion, ONLY IF it's really 4 or 5 times faster and twice as quiet.

Spending more than that would make the use of a V-Machine completely pointless for me.

I'm sure you're doing your best... and eventually the upgrade will be free for all!

Hi VFXAU, thanks for the suggestions.

I have the latest (1219) installed, but i have exactly the same problem as Kim: as soon as i start up VFX, i get a critical error message from Windows and the only option left is to close the app.

I tried the language-switch trick without any results. I made a ticket at the ticket-service from SM Pro (maybe also helpful for Kim: http://smproaudio.helpserve.com/index.php), and Danny Olesh suggested to check for GDIPLUS.DLL. It was on my computer, but even an extra download of the dll didn't fix it.

I mailed to Windows support, but their support consist of replying it's technical support (in MS-words: send me your money)

I understand i can get the vst's running without the software, but that would be a real pain in the butt, since i really need to use splits, effects, etc. How am i gonna set it up without the software running?

I know, that's the most frustrating part: i've seen it running on a laptop with XP dutch language. I also seen it crash on other systems with XP-os.

Don't forget to check your XP logfiles (Event viewer), perhaps you find something in relation to this error

Marco

ok

1. Are you running 1219 on your V-Machine as yet?
If not you can download an IMAGE and put it in the V-Machine without the use of the sfotware (just use a stick)

Second thing. You could put some plugs on a stick (just create a Plugs directory and then each directory for each plug inside it) similar to the plugs directory on your PC at the moment. No need for Banks...

Let me know if you need a link to download 1219 into a stick, I will help you where I can.

I need a link to download 1219 into a stick, and instructions to load the firmware from the stick. I'm currently running 20081031 and nothing works as on the manual (ex. in the MENU area I just can see the firmware, no other data pressind the > button)

Also, Windows XP doesn't recognise the V-M when connected to the usb and asks for a driver. I don't know if it is related to the Firmware but it can be. If not I'll submit a ticket.

Hi Ramon,

I had the same problem and this was for me the sollution:

- I was missing usbaudio.sys, I copied the file from another notebook to c:\windows\system32
- In c\windows\inf, I had to rename wdma_usbinf.bak and wdma_usbpnf.bak to wdma_usb.inf and wdma_usb.pnf (probably renamed through another installation)

Perhaps this will help you too

Best regards,
Marco

Thanks Marco!! Problem half solved. I didn't have the usbaudio.sys in none of my 2 windows installations, but I could rename the wdma_usbinf file (the pnf was already there). I've rebooted and I have now connection to the V-M.

I'm now trying to update the firmware but it freezes, it seems that it has no end..... maybe because the usbaudio.sys file that I don't have? Where can I find the file?

thanks in advance

Hi Ramon,

Perhaps at: C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
and if not,
I just send you a private message.

I have a problem:
I tried putting more VSTis on a single preset (everyone is assigned to a different channel). When I change channel on my keyboard and play the keys, only the VSTi with the right channel plays, but the same doesn't happen with MIDI controls: they seem to always affect every VSTi, even if, for example, the VSTi I'm playing is on channel 4 and the control is only supposed to affect channel 3.
Why is that?
By the way, I'm using an Axiom 61.

Hi,

Your PC is missing the driver for standard midi devices probably, you will find it in the knowledge base (how to download a stadard USB MIDI driver and make it work on the V) then you can update to 1219 easily.
Otherwise setup a support ticket on the SMPROAUDIO website

Hi,

Are they in the same slot? or different slots?
I do this myself without any issues. The unit cannot know if the midi info is note or not.. it just passes the midi information to all the slots.

You are talking about patch changes and pitch etc?

Hi Danny,

I don't find the article on the knowledge base, but I had my usb problem solved thanks to Marco (I thank you very much!). The problem now is that although the V-M is connected, the update freezes and nothing happens.

I also cannot find where to download the firmware to update from a stick!!

Another strange thing is that the VFX Application doesn't have the 'options' menu. I downloaded the software 2 days ago from the SM site so I'm sure it is the latest version.

I really need help!!

My firmware is 20081031

As far as language problem is concerned, one application is needed to solve the problem: AppLocale! I use it for running Japanese games and stuff like that. You google for AppLocale, download it, install, and then run it. Select the program you want to run (in this case, VFX application), tell AppLocale in which language you need it to be run (in this case, English), and it won't matter if your Windows is set to Dutch, Russian or whatever, it will probably run as if it were genuine English Windows. Try it!

About dual-core support needing to be programmed in VSTs to be usable, there ARE VSTs that use dual-core a LOT. Pianoteq runs 30-50% FASTER if dual-core CPU is available (it spreads the load over the available cores, which equals less heat generated). This is why a dual-core CPU is highly sought after.

Also, it is not true that there are just a few Windows apps that use dual-cores effectively. They show up in greater numbers day by day, as dual-cores are de facto standard. It will only get better from here on.

What do you say about updating V-Machine firmware to support 2 GB of RAM?
