Looks like Loud Technologies is reorganizing at present - hard to say what will become of Tracktion:

Glad to hear from all of you - thanks for the heads up on the hardware bundle with T3 - I think that will certainly be a consideration

My reference to ableton as a scratchpad was out of complete respect for Live - darn that program is quick to draw in - I love it - ha ha - but my 1 day on T3 is really impressing me, I love being able to place a different filter on each chunk of audio in each seperate track - indeed brilliant

I'm not a DJ guy...nor a loop guy - I simply write and record keyboard and guitar/bass/vocals(ok I use Drumcore in Live (and now in T3)...and Strike in PT...so I'm a loop guy on the drums) but for clarity my focus on composition is speed and quality of recording - with T3 - I'm freaking blown away! by what is offered (such as recording at 192k and unlimited tracks, and 24,25,30fps timecode...these are not items PT is giving away for $100 - I'm seeing value...or rather huge value in this program for my purposes

Love to hear more....when is T4 likely? thoughts?
Cheers

no one knows outside of the NDA realm.

i believe something may happen hopefully in a few months.

this is just a total guess, but I have done my research, and although no one really said anything, i am getting the jist that something may be worked on.

I guess we will (all) wait in joint anticipation of a new version...not that I require one at this point - as it will take me several songs prior to getting a handle on things...but with all the negative spec on Traktion's future posted on KVR forums... a new version would indicate to me that jumping into this program could be considered a 'going concern' option as opposed to that of riding a program to a funeral...I love this program...ha ha...but I think I said that...

one operational question:

when I'm loop recording a vocal or guitar part in PT, I create a playlist that I can then comp an optimal creation from. PT automatically crossfades my chunks together - I can see that T3 will provide me with a playlist, derived from several passes in loop record, but can T3 crossfade intertrack (like in the style of PT)?

I can now see that Live 8, will allow for crossfading between intertrack chunks - yippie - I (like many others) been asking Ableton for years to cough up that one...so great on everyone... and their persistence...but I digress...

Is T3 a laggard on this point? ...or in my brief few hours on T3 did I simply miss the intertrack crossfade option?

(thanks for the welcome IIRs...I hope to both learn and contribute to this forum!)

Stretch out a clip so that it overlaps the clip before it / after it, then press X to cross-fade. I don't think Tracktion can do it automatically yet..

I use Tracktion not too often, and am still on T2 - but yes, if you want to have REALLY fast and good results, Tracktion seems to be one of the best for that in my opinion too. There were long debates in the past with users who don't like the "everyting in 1 screen" approach - but for the users who love this, well, you have everything well organised and find it super-easily :). Personally I use Reaper the most today, but if I want very quick results I like Orion and Tracktion best.

Post

With all this talk about Reaper, I decided to download it and give it a try. So far I've been using it for about 3 weeks (off and on). It wasn't terribly difficult to learn, and it really seems to be quite good actually. I really like the midi editor, and I also found the automation to be a bit better IMO. certain plugins have more available options, as far as tweaking, than Trackion will give you. On the flip side, it still isn't as streamline as tracktion. I can't get used to having to move and resize windows to access what I need, that drives me nuts. Just as I think I'm getting used to it, I'll open Trackion again, and instantly I realize how much more easy T is to work in.

Does Reaper support video?

Thanks for the tip on crossfading, as long as the function is there I can work well with that.

It does have a "video window" and a Hours/min/sec/frames counter. My guess would be yes it does support it. I've never tried it, so I can't say for certain.

I gave reaper an (unfair) test...just a few minutes - it failed to grab me - although it seems to have a good-chunk-of-stuff within it's grasp

I simply felt at home the first time I opened Tracktion 3...I'm working on a tune right now only to discover that the T3 demo does not allow exporting...ha ha..I planned to buy it any matter..so no biggie

I think I'll keep to a trio of DAW programs...those being PT, live, and now Tracktion 3...(although I use Adobe's Audion to clean up files that require help - great help in sweeting audio for films

Audition has a most excellent set of tools..and its import/export features are great very helpful...(although I've never tried recording in Audition...just processing audio for web delivery and audio clean-up (pops..hissing..etc.)

So I have to stop at 4 DAWs...ha ha...or the constant upgrade learning curve will turn me into a tech...not a musician, not to mention the annual...or so upgrade costs...ouch...less is more (money in your pockets ...for sure)

I threw a few tunes on gagargeband...check them out - mostly jazz/blues ...with a couple of latin and rock tunes that were recorded on 1/2 tape...mastered with IK multimedia's T-racks..but recorded originally on tape

shamless self-promotion...ha ha..but who else is going to do it

Thanks skipkent - I'll have my first Traction tracks up and rolling on garageband in a few months.

I took a listen to your tracks as well - very cool - were they all done on Tracktion? If so very cool.

I managed to buy a makie mixer last week - it came bundled with Tracktion 3 for a total of $99 - God I love ebay!...glad to get rid of T3's demo white noise...although the bursts of noise kind of works with a smokey jazz brush on a snare (ha ha)
ha ha - I must say, I have indeed found my (next) scratch pad - I am a protools user by all means...I compose for film and I require PT to talk to my universe...however, I have been using Ableton to schetch out ideas...love that rig...I will not abandon live or PT ...but I must admit after just one day with tracktion 3 ...I can see another scratch pad coming into play...and T3 (not da pills) has 24, 25, and 30 frames per second timecode...ha ha...without PT's $1,200 (DV toolkit) price...infact..I (and the rest of the world) have so many plugins that I can get buy with the basic T3...ha ha $99bucks...I'm like a kid in a candy store - what freaking great deal - I'm reading tons of trouble on this forum with T3...I'm simply testing out the demo...and I've got to say...I know what I'm spending my next $99 on - T3

..and smiling - what a deal - does anyone else feel the same way..I have never seen such a steal..what am I missing

I'm running a quad on 4 gigs of ram on a dell 390 - just freaking snappy - records nice - edit features are nice - as are the bundled effects - just a great deal..from my humble perspective
Went to Acid Pro 7 after many years of heart ache with Tracktion........
