But if the seller is in, say, Belgium, that's the VAT that applies, is it not? That is, the VAT is on what was purchased, not where the processor is located.

There are no credit card processors anymore in the EU... the are all retailers now...

So Share-it is actually selling the plug-ins people buy and can charge what they want above the price you set for your product? Not understanding how they are retailers. The online credit card processors receive information about the buyer's credit card that the retailer is not supposed to have access to.

Well, regarding VAT and other accounting laws they are classed as retailers but don't forget that the developers are customers to them also. They have to be careful to keep people like Urs happy otherwise he'd choose someone else so they can't go around charging what they like. They can be 'creative' with the currency exchange rates though and that's how a lot of retailers make a nice little bonus (including banks).

I want Uhbik but I would hate to support the business of these share-it greedy bastards. In this case they're charging us an additional 14% of the original price for their services.

Actually, it's more like the euro price is better than the USD price, but then since you're in the EU you have to pay 19% on top of that for VAT...

I think it's stupid to pay VAT for an electronic delivery.

Why? VAT isn't for shipping and customs, it's a sales tax equivalent so that German companies such as U-He still contribute sales tax-ish stuff to the German government for sales by British/French/Polish/Whatever customers...

Fixed that for you.

Ok, I get your point. But I'm sure that they already pay other sort of taxes too.

I'm not against taxes, after all, they're in benefit of the community (theoretically), I just think that paying VAT for an electronic delivery is a stupid thing.

Uhbik's prices originally are in USD and share-it uses a shitty conversion to euro. How is the euro price better than the USD?

And I repeat in case anybody hasn't understood, VAT will go ON TOP of that shitty conversion of $99 to 85.56 euros.

I think ShareIt are sometimes a couple of days behind with exchange rates. Sometimes they have been even beneficial in that.

However, I'm charging in the weakest currency out of USD vs. EUR so it should be always beneficial for the buyer. For instance, if the Dollar rises above the Euro, I'll charge Euro prices.

Cheers,

;) Urs

If that happens I'm sure that share-it will find a way to screw the other half of the buyers exchanging Euros to USD... No difference really.

So, no PayPal?

Post

why don't you just pay in USD and let your credit card company convert it then?

Post

When I insert my username and password share-it automatically charges me in euros.
So I didn't login in my account but just went ahead and tried to pay in USD using my PayPal balance. Now I got a message that my payment has been delayed and I will be informed as soon as they have received it. That has happened again in the past and a few hours later I was notified that my payment was denied (who knows why) so I had to try again.
