How can I keep all my wrapped plugins intact when I re-install the 2.0 version of MuLab?
Mac Pro Quad 2.66 GHz. 9GB RAM
Snow Leopard 10.6.8/Pro Tools 8.0.5/Digi 002R
Live 9.1
Predator, Subboombass

make a copy of VstPlugins.xml which is inside the MULAB/Settings, then put it in the same location after you re-install MuLab.

Although if you're going from a non-recent version (one of the earlier 2.0 series) to the latest version, there's some extra information in VstPlugins.xml, so you should rescan.

Thanks guys! That works just fine. Love the new version, btw! If you made the Free version 24-bit I'd be tempted to use it more. It would be a nice alternative to my Pro Tools rig.

The Unlimited version is only 49 Euro!

That's absolutely worth it, imho.

Right?

Why so cheap? ;-)

Post

That's a good question.

Many people already said it's too cheap.

So why still this (too) low price?

1) MU.LAB still is a young product and must find its market segment.

2) We want MU.LAB to be a democratic musical tool.

3) There is a deep economic crisis outside.

At the other hand, MUTOOLS must generate income otherwise it can't survive. So the pricing will be re-evaluated from version to version.

Take advantage of the current offer i would say!

MULAB is cheap that's true.
But there are 2 things :
1) You can use Reaper for free (no limitation in the demo), and the license is 50$ if you use it for non commercial use. And I think that people look at MULAB because it's free or cheap. So it will be hard to go beyond 50$.
2) MULAB has still some "unfinished" features :
--> you loose your settings each time you install a new version (as it is discuted here), unless you do it by hand, but you don't know if the old files are compatible with the new version...
--> the way you select presets for a VST. The separate modale window must be replaced by a direct access in the VST window head.
--> The lack of basic functions in the composer (insert measures...),
--> The way automation works (you can just draw, and you don't have a readout of the actual value),
--> you can have several compositions in a session but you can't select them easily, etc... and I wonder who is using them ? I would prefer a way to make "sections" in a song, so you can easily move them, resize them, insert new ones, maybe assign a Rack to them, etc...
--> The fact that you cant give the focus to fields when you want to change a value this way,
--> etc...

Of course, I love MULAB because it's powerfull and I love the sober UI.
I love it too because there is a free version and the VST world need a good free VST host.
I love it because music hoobyists need a cheap VST host to live their passion.
MULAB brings it all, so I will supoort it until I die.

I heard a lot about Reaper, and it seems you can do a lot with it.

But the times i tried it, it didn't feel good for me. Too much like Cubase.

Anyway, it's good that there is choice, so everyone can choose the tool which fits/feels best :)

First of all thanks for your critical comments, much appreciated :tu:

Strange that it still gets so much critic;

Ok, it takes 2 mouse clicks to open the vst patch browser from the vst editor window. Then you can browse and preview all vst patches at once.

In Live you don't even have access via the editor!

And i wonder: Is choosing a patch something you do such often?
Once you have chosen a certain patch for a plug, you're settled, no?
--> The fact that you cant give the focus to fields when you want to change a value this way,
Not sure what you mean here.
--> etc...
Please elaborate 'etc...'.

The other things you wrote are on the whishlist.

It's not the number of clicks. The VST patch browser is a modal window, so you can't do anything else when browsing presets. Another avantage to have an access to preset directly in the VST editor window head is that you can keep the preset name displayed once you have choose a preset. And yes I often go throught presets because it's a pleasure in itself and it's a way to learn them regulary. And sometimes you spend an hour to find the "good" bass sound, etc..

ex : I want to enter directly the song position by clicking on it in the transport panel, I now have a window with a field where I can type in the position. But I can't put the mouse cursor where I want in the field. And when I first mouse click on the field, It don't show me that the focus is in. It's a bit strange and annoying. Not a big deal but someone who discover Mulab can wonder what happen and feel it's not "pro"...

oh well, I know that sometimes I encounter little things that don't please me but I don't recall them now... Maybe, the fact that you can't control the transport by MIDI...

Thank you Jo for listening ang great support !

You're right.

Right; Will be improved.
