MU.LAB 2.5.2 has been released and is available from http://www.mutools.com/downloads.html

If you already have installed MU.LAB 2.5.x then you can just replace the current application file by this patch:

OSX: http://www.mutools.com/mulab/mulab-252-osx-patch.zip
WIN: http://www.mutools.com/mulab/mulab-252-win-patch.zip

That way you don't have to re-setup anything.

What's changed:
  • OSX: Important compatibility improvement regarding file access/browsing
  • WIN: Fixed problem with drag and drop to/from VST editor windows

Cheers for the update, as ever.

One thing though --- could the user key be ported to new installs?

Reason is, I just loaded up a song after upgrading to put in an idea I had, did it, saved and shut down. Come back, open the song again to do a later part -- where's my frigging synth track gone?!? It's probably my favourite song of mine so far, in no small part due to a section of improvised synth, and all nowhere to be found. I nearly had a bloody heart attack!

Thank god I saved a backup copy last night.

So, if the user key port isn't possible for any reason, a message to warn you that some tracks have not been loaded and will be lost on save would be a good idea IMO.

Also, one thing while I was importing the missing parts from the backup into the new file: I noticed that you don't have the load sequence option from the timeline context menu. Seems a bit odd to have to create an empty sequence to load one up, plus you then have to tangle with loop points etc if you can't remember the exact length. Finally, drag 'n' drop didn't work with the musequence file, dunno if this is an intended feature or not.

I'm no sure if i understand the situation.

In MU.LAB Free, you can use up to 6 tracks.

When you would load a session with more than 6 tracks, then tracks 7 to N are placed on track 1 to 6. No tracks are deleted.

When tracks 7 to N are wrapped to tracks 1 to 6 it may be that parts are overlapping and thus not all parts are visible. Also it could be that they don't play as expected because they're on another track.

But this is only the case if you load a MU.LAB Unlimited session with more than 6 tracks into MU.LAB Free.

Was that the case?

These are all aspects that will be improved in M3.

Yeah, that was exactly it... I forgot to re-authorise the new version. I thought it sounded wrong!

It's just me being stupid, but you still might want to pop up a dialogue box explain what's happened -- after all, most people who encounter this situation are going to be unlimited users anyway.

In M3, there will be a an alert. Thanks for the suggestion.

No problem. About MULAB3, by the way: multicore?

Post

No comments about that at this point.

(because it's too early to make public statements about what M3 will be)

Pretty cool update Jo!

The OSX file browser flies now. I never noticed it was still so slow until today. It was really slow to begin with, then 2.4 happened and I thought it was pretty good. But this is really fast now!

And I disovered a little oddity. When I first click on rack to choose a synth/effect in a new project, MU.LAB gives me a warning saying that it's unable to start ReWire ("Error=9"), even though I don't want to start it in the first place.

Marco :)

Post

The ReWire 'error' is normal if you don't have ReWire installed on your system.

Maybe this alert is a bit confusing..?

Post

yeah definitely confusing, because it makes you think something is wrong, and it's an extra click too!

It would make more sense to have it appear only if you intend to open a rewire device IMO.

Post

Thing is that MU.LAB searches for ReWire devices when you open the plugin list, e.g. by clicking on a rack slot.

The only solution i see is to mute that alert, and to add a greyed out "No Devices Found" in the ReWire group, so that a ReWire user has a minimum of feedback.

What do you think?

Post

Sounds like a much better solution. What does everybody else think?
If I'm the first to mention this weeks into the 2.5 Release it possibly means it's a very subjective thing anyway.

:)

Much better I reckon. The ReWire users get the information they need to start investigating the problem, and the non-ReWire users don't even have to know about it.

Post

Yeah, you only need to know there's a problem with ReWire:
1) If you open a project with a ReWire plugin in it and you can't find it
2) If you go to plug in a new ReWire client and can't find any
-- that's just like any other plugin, isn't it?
