V-Machine

Let's just wait and see then. I also think it's a brilliant idea, taked aback a little by an underpowered CPU. If that thing resolves itself in a positive way for me (running Pianoteq comfortably is paramount), then SM Pro will get all praises from my mouth.
If not, well Muse will have its MuseBOX on the way, as competition seems to be steaming up.

Receptor is more powerful and more expensive, for starters.

wow, come on be fair its also much more expensive and much larger and heavier.
i dont even think of them in the same catagory, and between receptor and a laptop i chose the laptop cause if youre gonna lug something that big around anyways etc etc etc.
v-machine is unique in that its small and cheap, and perhaps the plugin count is as well but theres several small and cheap plugins i wouldnt mind being able to run on a small and cheap box.

That said, Use Audio Plugiator is even cheaper than V-Machine, but has topnotch plugins written for it (a Minimoog, an Odyssey, a Prophet 5, a Hammond, an FM synth, a wavetable synth, a vocoder, a drum&bass synth). So it's a bit more limited, but the sheer quality of the plugins is overwhelming in such way that if those synths are all you need, you're gonna love it.
I'm actually pondering over that little box, too. Too bad it doesn't have any pianos onboard. But for all the other synths there, it's a definitive bang for the buck.
And again I will look like I'm dissing the V. I'm not. I'm just saying there are other options for different profiles of people. Plugiator seems like a fun box to have, especially if you know that Use Audio is in fact the, now demised, Creamware. And Creamware had topnotch analog emulations.

@VFXAU: any news about the new udpdate? what will be included? thanks.
BTW: I wrote a e-mail to native-instruments asking about the installation of the kore-player on the v-machine. there was just a reply like "no idea. ask later."

probably I am not going to buy a v-machine after all. yet I still think SMpro did a great job developing and throwing this thing on the market.janka wrote:DragonSagoth wrote:No, I'm just saying that V-Machine had the potential to be an AWESOME product. It ended up to be a mediocre one, just for the sake of low-profile CPU it uses.Give the guys a break. The V is already great for a lot of stuff and with the CPU-upgrade it will be all I ever asked for.

yes, the v-machine sucks in price compared to a laptop. but this comparison does not work out:
compared to vst-player leader Receptor the v-machine does not bad. remind urself the old receptor was roughly 3x more expensive and does not have much more cpu.VFXAU wrote: 1. [..] consumer CPU's [..] availability program
2. Power and heat [..] most of these CPU's would burn up
3. applications for the V-Machine, Windows and MAC
audio hardware isnt cheap. I was suspicous of v-machine's price at the beginning, and I think the price is too low. anyway v-machine lands a very nice approach in the unexplored world of hardware vst players

+1 : any news? Synchrosoft? C/R activation? ....breakbeatmonster wrote:@VFXAU: any news about the new udpdate? what will be included? thanks.
...a least, they gave you an answer...I dropped a kind question about v-machine support in general at native-instruments more than a week ago. no response at all!breakbeatmonster wrote:@VFXAU: BTW: I wrote a e-mail to native-instruments asking about the installation of the kore-player on the v-machine. there was just a reply like "no idea. ask later."
I don't understand the behaviour of native-instruments. Maybe Massive was the last instrument I bought from them now....

I got no problem with NI. But I think that they know they are good.
I like the fresh sounds of some kore-sound-packs. It's quite plain to me that huge sound monsters an CPU-intensive instuments arn't right for the little 'V'. But hopefully some patches of the koreplayer running well ... after this ***-authentication and installation thing is done and compatible with the v-machine.
I think for common sounds a workstation is the better choice. V-Machine should bring me some rare and unusual stuff...that's the reason why I'm not so sad about some VSTs not running on the V because I think it is not its job i my setup. Sure pianotech running so bad was hard...I like this VST, too

Don't need sample stuff or bread and butter sounds....but that's me only, I know...

Being really good means at least talking to customers, in my opinion.... even if the only info is: "We are working on it, stay tuned."breakbeatmonster wrote:I got no problem with NI. But I think that they know they are good.![]()
Simply not answering is not acceptable.
Let's see....

Hi All,schoko wrote:double post....
I can say that they are working on it... it is not an issue of plugs being able to run or not, just how to authorise them in a simple way, we are in discussion with them to get this going ASAP.
New firmware released in a couple of days with the following:
\VFX Application - PC
* Options menu with ASIO devices. YEYE ASIO BACK~!
* Added more descriptive prompts while importing plugins and running license tools.
* Fixed a regression that caused app to hang after importing a plugin.
* Fixed a regression that stopped a plugin being listed immediately after being imported.
* Added prompt to relocate a file/folder if it can't be found during plugin import.
* Ability to enter serial numbers into the plugin on request and save into wizard automatically.
--------------------------------------
v1.0 20090121
--------------------------------------
VFX Application
* Timestamps on log entries.
* Disabled the ability to start an incorrect second V-MACHINE update via the GUI.
* Corrected update messages to match new hotplug functionality.
* Prevented sync when no V-Machine attached.
* Clipping obfuscation in Directsound and ASIO.
* MIDI device/V-Machine hotplug - at last!
* Fixed problem where app won't start without a valid audio device.
* Fixed audio initialisation sequencing trouble.
* Build and date/time at start of log file.
* Added plugin licensing support.
* IK Multimedia License tool integration in wizard.
This means all the IK products can be authorised properly!
* Added facility for v-machine to create supporting plugin files from vfxinfo on startup.
The sun is going to shine in the morning, at least above the clouds.

I think kore packs should be ok, they are mostly just sample playback as far as I can see.breakbeatmonster wrote:I got no problem with NI. But I think that they know they are good.
