got an offer for a Receptor Standard Edition from a shop near by (demonstration model).
the price is about the same as for a new SMpro v-machine (which I was also considering).
I'd love to own a hardware player and i would not mind of buying another one in future.
my question: is it recommendable to buy an old Receptor? known problems? support? future Muse products?
thank you.

What's the price you're offered ? Then we can see whether it's worth it.

Muse has stated that the upgrade pricing for 1st gen units would be reasonable but no specifics. I think a Rev C, 160GB drive, 2GB RAM is a no-brainer at the V-Machine price point. Even the special prices for the 1st gen Receptors at online retailers is much higher than that.

seems like I can pick it up for 700$ (slighlty more than a v-machine). the seller provides no warranty - so I need to make sure the device functions properly at the shop location.
Q:
- Receptor software updates?
- known problems of first batch Receptors?
- anything else to consider for buying?

If it's a Rev. C (Turion ML-34 to 44), then $700 is a great price. If it's a previous model (with Athlon XP2500 or 2600 CPU), then it's debatable.
Mind you, it could be an interesting purchase to have it upgraded to Receptor 2, but we still don't know how much that will be.
The standard upgrade from Rev.A to C was around $500, if that's still available from Muse.

Agreed. Find out which rev it is. I can't wait to see what the upgrade pricing is for the Rev C to the 2 series as I didn't pay all that much more for mine than you are looking to pay for this one.
