I have run into this in logic 8 as well. In fact, it's kind of a big issue even when rendering a mixdown. I have found like Bruce that if I have any vi's, to make sure there is a small gap at the start before any midi notes are played, then to play that gap quickly to clear the sounds before rendering. Otherwise you get random sounds at the beginning of your tracks. A little annoying and it doesn't happen in Ableton Live.

Yeah. Just to make sure, I want to emphasize that we are talking about two slightly different things here: many softsynts play their leftover audio as soon as you start Logic, regardless of if there are any actual notes on the track. This is a little irritating but manageable - just activate solo, select nothing, and let Logic play a while to make sure you don't get any extra stuff in the beginning of the bounce.

Omnisphere on the other hand acts differently from any other softsynth I have used: it doesn't start emptying it's leftover buffer until it runs into the first note in the song, at which point it's already too late - your bounce is ruined. This seems to happen with patches that use Omni's internal FX, and is most noticeable with reverbs and delays.

I don't have Omni, neither do I have a Mac, but based on the descriptions, I'd guess Omni does CPU saving by not rendering effects before there's a note, and for some reason it doesn't properly reset the effects when stopped, such that when they get active again (next note) you get a tail.

Yep, I'm not a plugin programmer (unlike you :)), but that sounds reasonable.

(I don't want to start yet another Omnisphere topic, so I'll just post to this one, although this is completely unrelated to the original problem. :))

I just found a strange thing: at least in my Omni, actual LFO rates seem to be way faster than what the rate-knob indicates in Hz. For example, if I set an LFO to modulate pitch, and set the rate to 0.2Hz, the audible result is pretty close to 1Hz. And if I set the knob to 1Hz, what I hear is definitely faster than once per second.

Not a showstopper in any way, but odd. Anyone else have this too, or is it just me?

Same thing here with LFO rate, just tried. Never noticed that, hm...

@Captain

After all these years, I wonder if there are any news to this topic. I'm also having the same issue.

Change host. We did. Not looking back to the bugfest Logic was/is. Un-readed eg. no automation when rendering was the most experienced bug. So annoying to wait again 20 minutes to hear it - again fail.
