I just dwnloaded UVI. It looks great, as I am a former avid user of V-Sampler, that looked and worked VERY much like UVI. I was quite disappointed when support ended for that product. The problem I'm having I'm sure has a simple solution, but I can't get started until it's resolved.

First off, 1.)Nnowhere in their literature does it specify which proprietary sound/sample formats they support, i.e. sf2, krz, vs3(V-Sampler), Akai, etc. I'm assuming they support soundfonts, being such a universally accepted format.

2.)When I tried to load any of those sounds whether UVI was a standalone, or Sonar VST plug-in; whether I used drag/drop or 2X click, it never loaded. Then, I read the blurb about creating the alias. That's where my real problem lies.

It never says exactly how to do that. I've since found out they are referring to a shortcut, but that's still a bit unclear. A shortcut to each sample, or to just the other HDD where I have all my samples? Now, before anyone explains that could you pls answer this? I have an entire 20Gig partition of patches and samples on a separate HDD from my OS/App HDD so that I don't have to tax the read/write heads, and processes. So, can you tell me how to implement this "alias" requirements thang on that separate HDD?

3.) I read a lot of these threads re:PACE. I downloaded that, but does that require access to the internet? I ask that because the partition where my DAW resides doesn't have ANY network access for what should be obvious reasons.

I know I've asked a lot here, but I sure would like some enlightenment.

UVIWorkstation only support its native format for presets and audio files(wav, aif, sd2, RX2, ...)

UVIWorkstation has been mainly designed to playback soundbank designed for UVI based engine like the one available on uvisoundsource.com
.
Though it's able to read audio file and play those.

Might be explained by the answer to your first question.
Though you should be able to drag/drop audio files like wav, aiff, rex..

PACE do not require any internet access, so don't worry.
You might need network access if you want to download to your ilok authorization if your purchase some content for UVIWorkstation.
But it's only one single operation and can be done from any computer(doesn't require UVIWorkstation to be installed on this one)

Hope this answers your questions.

Are there any reviews for UVI Workstation? Also, if I decide to give this app a try, do I have to install the demo library or is it optional?

It's free, so probably not many, if any. Maybe you're talking about the libraries?

Maybe in the future we will review it. But that's not up to us.

It's optional and a completely different file. The player can load your own waves and loops in, so you don't have to have any libraries from them.

I believe the player still installs PACE since that is used for the libraries. But I don't know if the player itself actually USES the PACE drivers. I've had zero issues with it, but then again, I have lots of stuff of my iLok and use it for many more programs.

Thanks, Brent. I'm not worried about the PACE stuff. I don't use anything that relies PACE or iLok, so I shouldn't have any problems.

What are your impressions of this UVI thingy? I just heard about it over at MOTUNation and it seems to be pretty good for taking care of some of DP's shortcomings with handling loops and REX files. So I'll give it a shot. Would like to know more though. I did watch the videos, btw. I just didn't get a good sense of the real-time capabilities. I guess I'll just dive in and see what the growing fuss is all about.

I like it, but I use Kontakt for pretty much everything in sampling so on it's own it doesn't get a ton of use. That being said, I do keep it around because it's easy to use and manage loops, adding effects and such. And since it's free, it didn't break the bank to get it.

I would just mess with it. It's pretty simple to use and you'll know pretty quickly if it's for you or not. It's not going to give any retail mainstream sampler any troubles, but it's still good nonetheless.

just out of curiosity: any plans for a 64bit windows version?

Sure thing. We just waited for it to be more mainstream. The release of Cubase 5
in 64bits will help (still, there is a wrapper just like in Sonar).

We just need to do it :D

Thanks for your support.

As you may or may not remember i had some stability issues with my computer that i strongly suspected was due to the UVI Workstation and more specific the PACE drivers.

I just want to chime in that i no longer think so.

The weirdest thing. After i uninstalled the UVI the explorer did'nt crash for 3 days which it used to several times each day. Then for the big WTF? The problem slowly started to get more frequenct and was just as bad as it was before the uninstall. I have no real explanation to this behaviour.

However some googling pointed me in a different direction and i uninstalled something else and i've pleased to say explorer has'nt crashed since.

So i'm sorry if i tarnished the reputation of your product. That was never my intention. I just reported what was my experience. And the problem did go away for a while but then came back. Which is pretty darn weird in itself but besides the point.

I have'nt actually reinstalled UVI but i have no hesitation to do so. I'm pretty darn sure what was the problem now and UVI was'nt it.

Just so you know.

I can't seem to make UVI Workstation play WAVs. It autoplays RX2 files perfectly, but just sits there doing nothing when it finds a regular (or acid) WAV. Any ideas?

Running 1.0.14 through Sonar 7.0.2, Q6600 4GB RAM - thanks for any help!
