It's only version 1.man-T wrote:what's wrong with the old version?

No polyphony option.man-T wrote:what's wrong with the old version?
I don't care about 100% authentic emulation. I rather like the idea of taking something essentially the same as the old classics and making them even more useful. Believe me, every ARP Odyssey owner back in the old days would have killed for polyphony on the thing.
But of course, if they ever do v2, I wouldn't mind even more features like they've done with impOSCar 2.

They purposely left polyphony out in order to replicate the classic Odyssey Ring Modulation effect. I personally think it is one of the best analogue emulations out there, and am very pleased with my Oddity. Nothing's stopping me from putting this baby to use right now in it's present state. For me, it's perfect as it is.

But they could certainly offer a polyphony option and still have the classic implementation available. It's not like the original had the Oddity's morph mode. And even the best Minimoog emulations out there have polyphony options.
I use Oddity all the time. But it gets far less use than it otherwise would because it's not fully polyphonic.
The more options the better.

I wouldnt hold my breath for a polyphonic Oddity in the forseeable future, the original was developed as a Mono synth and thats where its strength lies, monophonicaly, its a lead line instrument, a bassline instrument and an effects machine, it covers the parts that all the other generic polyphonic pad machines cant touch and in that it stands out, its monophonicality is what makes it stand out and forces you to use it differently instead of just another homogenous "keyboard" , its a synthesizer for synthesists, something all piano players should be dissuaded from usingemdot_ambient wrote:But they could certainly offer a polyphony option and still have the classic implementation available. Actually it's duo phonic

Actually it's duo phonic Wink
This is correct. I remember using this feature back in my college days in the ol' electronic music studio. We had a Roland system 100 too with 2 tape decks for overdubbing
But polyphony would not make it a version 2 would it? What else would be added? perhaps built in effects?

I wouldn't mind a poly mode being added as long as it still had the duo mode (working exactly as now)
Oddity 2 would have to add more than that though... Like Melohman (the extra mod sources and the morphing via midi key input just like on the minimonsta)
That would be kickass.

its a synthesizer for synthesists, something all piano players should be dissuaded from using Wink
I like your style. Geeks have to have something to call our own...

Actually its switchable between Monophonic and Duophonic, but thats beside the point, the point i was making is that its a synthesizer not a "keyboard" instrument and its one of the few vstis that force people to confront what they do with synthesizers. A Mark 2 would be nice, but polyphony i'm not so sure about......... now an Arp/Rhodes Chroma would be a different matterloungedumore wrote:

So you're saying that any polyphonic synth isn't a synth but a "keyboard" instrument? Like the Matrix 12 wasn't a synth?Dave Blakely wrote:...the point i was making is that its a synthesizer not a "keyboard" instrument...
Polyphony would simply expand its synth abilities. I'm not a piano player and often use my other synths in mono mode...but believe it or not, even synthesists like to grab a handful of notes at one time every now and then. Why put an artificial restriction just for the sake of "purity"?
Other V2 features...an ARP Sequencer emulation...well I can dream, can't I?

So why did they bother making a polyphonic Minimoog emulation?Dave Blakely wrote:I wouldnt hold my breath for a polyphonic Oddity in the forseeable future, the original was developed as a Mono synth and thats where its strength lies
