I listened to the samples of the Combo Sister virtual combo organ plugin and liked what I heard:

I would like to be able to use this plugin as a live performance keyboared instrument. I'm new to the world of virtual instrument plugins and MIDI and I'm not sure how to go about doing this, if it's even possible.
What I'm thinking of doing is running a midi controller keyboard into a laptop with the plugin installed, and then running the audio out through a good quality soundcard and into a keyboard or bass amp or a mixer. Is this possible?
However, I assume that if a piece of software is a "plugin," it needs a host application of some kind. For my specific purpose, what host software would be suitable? My OS would be either Windows XP or Vista. I know there's Cubase, but I'm obviously not going to go out and buy a complicated multitrack recording/sequencing program just to use this one virtual instrument.
Another concern I have is with latency. Will there be issues with latency, i.e. will there be a delay from the time I press/depress a key on the midi keyboard to the time the virtual instrument responds?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I beg your pardon for the late reply, weekend was busy.
All you wrote is possible and correct, the latency dpends mostly on the audio card and its driver, (don't forget the freeware http://www.asio4all.com/)
but you can easly get less than 10 ms, which should be good to play organs.
As VST hosts I suggest you to start with the small freeware ones, search for SAVIhost and Cantabile, then you have a dozen more options to try out.

I've tested out the demo with one of the freeware hosts and the "fake" ASIO driver you specified. I used my computer keyboard to play since I don't for the moment have a MIDI keyboard or even a MIDI jack on my computer. The plugin works well and sounds extremely good! Perhaps not as aggressive or ballsy sounding as a real combo organ, but for my purposes, close enough. I don't care if it's a perfect simulation as long as it gets me in the ballpark. It's better than anything I've heard to date.
I went out looking at some combo organs being sold through the classifieds earlier this week and people seem to be demanding premium prices for instruments that are in poor to fair condition. A laptop, a MIDI controller keyboard, and your plugin is a much better deal.
Just wondering: Is the name "Combosister" a word play on transistor?
