just be aware that the fine details you have there will not be seen when its reduced in size.

So would it make more sense to perhaps work with them smaller in the 1st place then? I can probably get more detail that way. Or does it matter?

Well yes and no? It is harder to control at the smaller size. There is the option of editing the size in another program. Personally I do the switches like that in PHS if I want something more detailed, I use knobman when it is a simpler one requiring less detail. I would try out a small scale version and experiment with what you can do there with transparency and the textual tools etc. If you have access to a editor you can export a layer and remove the fill and load it as a .png for specific types of beveling etc but I would do this at size.

I am sure there are other ways and that others have different methods, that's just how I would approach it.

Been awhile since I've done one of these...

This is a simple knob, but it uses a techinque I haven't tried before. The very top layer is a circle. It uses the Plasma texture with the depth turned all the way up. Also, the Alpha parameter in the color section is turned way down. This adds something like noise to the overall image. But the key is that I have this layer rotate just like the indictator line. The result is that the "noise" rotates when you turn the knob, giving it a more tactile feel. It's a subtle effect, but one that doesn't seem to be lost when you reduce the size of the knob.

You really have to "turn" the knob to get a sense of the effect; the still frames don't convey it.

Nice knob and nice effect, but my main feedback pertains to the shadow. Since the shadow is so far away it shows as its own circle which lends a bit of artificial-ness to the look. Maybe if you add another circle or two under the main layer (but the same size) and give them shadows with different offsets you can "fill in" the edges of the shadow. Basically, instead of it looking like the shadow of a cylinder, yours right now looks like a circle that is a knob, then a circle next to it that is a shadow.

Here's something I made rather quickly.
Grab Knobman and make some small adjustments to the knob and you should be able to use it. ;)

both the knob and the web sit.

Its really simple and sometimes the most effective in this case it certainly is. I really like how you did the shadow, I have doing something like that as well recently and it really works out.

edit: uhm thats wierd I opened it agian and it was three layers shown on the tree, I opened it again saying it not possible, and there are more layers. I closed it and opened it agian and three layers. click on it and the other layer appeared...WTF! I think I have a glitch going on. Still a really nice knob and effective.

Thanks Hlis :)
Hmm, i don't have any troubles at all (using v1.33) :?

That Marshall knob is far too detailed to make a nice and small knob of it.
The knob would have to be huge for all the ripples and the grips to show properly.

<Edit> Poor effort on the marshall knob: http://stashbox.org/408199/Marshall.knob

This is another knob based on the rotating noise effect. It uses the "Metal Circle" shape in KnobMan to give the top layer circle a metalic feel. This layer remains stationary, i.e. it doesn't rotate (I discovered early on while using KnobMan that it doesn't look right to have the metal circle rotate). However, the very top layer is the overall noise layer, and it does rotate. This gives the metal circle layer underneath a more realistic look.

I haven't either until this morning! But the son was playing with the computer this morning, agian, so there no way to determine the amount of damage done :<

reinstaled 1.33 and no problem now.
