I'm sorry you had problems, but I must say that we tested EVE on several P4 machines with no denormal problems at all.
We do know that there are new P4 processors that has even worse denormal problems than the "old" ones. The ADSR envelope does use almost 4 times more CPU usage on Attack and Release, not sure if is the problem you have. I will check the code soon again for more denormal isues, but so far all I can say is that this was not detected during the beta-testing of EVE engine.

and the cpu will measure 1 or 2 %..once I have stopped playing, the cpu will first jump to 3, then 5 then 8 or 9 % till i press a note again
it would help to know if that rising stops or not,
when it got to 9% does it stop to 9%?
doesn it happen both with short and long release time?

William called this normal, and what I saw on my 2.53ghz Intel myself. I'd get about 9% after I released a note and let it fade out.liqih wrote:and the cpu will measure 1 or 2 %..once I have stopped playing, the cpu will first jump to 3, then 5 then 8 or 9 % till i press a note again

thanks DB , so for you it comes back to 0% after it jumped to 9%, right?
in this case is Release extra CPU usage as william said,
if it keeps 9% or even goes higher after release time
then it's a denormal issue

Hi guys...
Just an observation, I don't know if it helps this discussion at all. Virtually all the presets that exhibit the CPU spike also have a rumble centered around 10 hz when you first open the preset. The presets that don't spike the CPU don't have the rumble. I can't hear it of course but it can be seen with Inspector.
For what it's worth.
Love EVE though!

I should add that I have Win2k and the cpu spike goes away if you wait before the next note.

The one's with delay are even better in the Inspector (Just installed this the other day for the first time, and just used it for the first time.
Nice little Tool) It looks like it peaks around 10-15 hz, spreading up to 40hz, sometimes up to 100hz, but it's almost always below most people's noise floor sitting around -70 or lower. A few did spike up to -60db. I know it's Williams fade algorhythm though. And considering how quiet it is, I see why I totally missed it since it's not audible.

Ttoz, I must say that this kind of words upsets me a bit, since I'm trying to help you out and is this what you have to say to me?
Anyway, as we said, this is normal and is not a denormal problem. This is how the ADSR envelope works. Is not a fault, defect, or problem, or even DENORMAL. It is not. This is how EVE works.
Also, keep in mind, EVE IS fast, you can compare to any other product. Just keep in mind that most presets uses 3 layers, meaning that you get 3 voices per note, not one voice only.

I'm sorry Ttoz, but this IS personal, since is not the first time you come with a negative and flaming attitude. Sorry bud, but you asked sorry on the last time, remember?ttoz wrote:you shouldn't be upset. This is a support forum, and you have to expect these sort of things from time to time. it's NOT agains dash signature personally ok?
Just imagine this, even with EVE using more CPU usage for the ADSR release, using 3 voices, it is still using way lower CPU usage than other sampler products.
Just be more calm bud...
