Hey gang...

I did a review of mDrummer here and I thought I'd follow it up with a thread about possible suggestions that could make the vst even better.

UI:

There is plenty of room for a Windows/Mac style of "File/Edit" menu over each tab. I think this could go a long way toward making the initial learning curve less steep. The icons are a little confusing at first.

Every Area is the same color. You can change the color but it's global. It would be nice if you could make different panels different colors to help separate them.

Prefs:

Ability to change default settings to your own. Maybe I want Jam mode on all the time.

Song Structure: Add song loop command for prolonged jam sessions.

Effects:

Filter gain/distortion for each drum.

Ability to put effects on a master output.

That's all I can think of now. I'd love to be able to drag song structure into a Live clip, but I have a feeling that's a problem with Live and not mDrummer.

Well, I'm not really friend of menus, so I rather leave this for other people's optinions. So guys what do you think?
And zerocrossing maybe can you make it a little more detailed? I mean what menu exactly you would expect?

Ou ou, this does not happen often, but unfortunately I have to turn this down :-(. Our GUI system has been developed for years (and I really mean years). I makes the development easy and provides very hardcore features (you may have already noticed, how everything is resizable, stretchable, help system......), but everything has its limitations. In particular our styling engine limits this. Btw. you can change not only colors, but overall size (vectorial!!!), and the style (only 2 are available right now, but...).

Well, I was already thinking about this. The problem is, that it is kind of dangerous. New user may do something he does not understand, try to revert it by closing the application, and... heh... The setting still works. Any particular ideas how this could be done? (from the user's perspective of course)

Definitely!

There is! You can use MCompressor/MLimiter as gain and MLimiter/MWaveShaper as distortion, among many other effects of course.

Another idea discussed and not finished yet. Main question - MDrummer has multiple outputs. So should the effect pipeline be common for all of these effects (much harder, because multiple channels must share settings), or each output should have its own pipeline (easy)? In the later case what advantages does it have compared to VST hosts pipeline?

Well, I tried Live (but I don't really know how to use it :-) ), and it really seems that it just cannot accept MIDI import. On the other hand there were a problem with generated MIDI files (they didn't work under Sonar), so you may try update MDrummer and maybe it will start to work ;-) (but I think it wont :-D)
