Hi,
Has anyone tried running Zone Mobius on Receptor?

If not, anyone willing to give it a try?

cheers,

It doesn't seem to work on Receptor.

I downloaded version 1.30h, installed it on my PC, then copied it over to Receptor. It seemed to install fine, but didn't work upon loading. The program did not display properly (a bunch of "???" instead of text), then Receptor rebooted. I suspect it's directory permissions (or lack of), since Mobius uses separate XML files and other data files to define the screen layout and more.

Thanks for giving it a try.
You're probably right about the permissions thing (or maybe it's a directory path issue) - is Receptor not able to load external files into a plugin?

The external files of Mobius are located in the same directory as the DLL (in the Unsupported Plugins hierarchy). I think that Mobius needs to open them read-write-exclusive, which may not be possible for data files in that directory (due to permissions enforced by Receptor).

Plugins can indeed load external files, but generally they are in the \Samples folder hierarchy. So I'm not sure if Mobius can be re-directed to open files from that folder.

I've found an entry in the registry (\HKCU\Software\Mobius\InstDirectory) that points to the install directory. I'm not sure if that value was set on my Receptor, since I simply copied the files over. Perhaps it should be set to something like "C:\Samples\MobiusLooper" (assuming that all Mobius data files are moved to that directory). The DLL should remain in Unsupported Plugins.

I'll try again and get back to you.

Here's what I found: It may be that the InstDirectory registry value only applies to the EXE version of Mobius. The DLL may expect to use the DLL directory, which it can't because of permissions. So it uses the root of the Receptor C drive (C:\). There was a message in the system log that gave me that clue (there was also one mentioning support for only the 44.1KHz sampling rate). By moving all data files to the root folder, I was able to load the plugin, and briefly see the proper user interface, but then it rebooted Receptor. The system log indicated an unhandled exception, so it looks like there are other incompatibilities.

Those deeper issues can usually only be fixed if the developer has a Receptor or close coordination with a Receptor owner.

Thanks for taking an in-depth look, appreciated.
Mobius does seem a little quirky, compatibility-wise. Live and FLStudio load it fine, but Console and Synthedit both refuse.

I'll mention your comments to the developer on the Yahoo group and see what he says.

You're welcome. And also please mention to the developer that he can contact me and I'll help in any way I can.
