The reason you need a mouse is that the plugin programmer appears to have not added vst automation for the preset changes. Since the plugin was not written to support patch changes you cant use the buttons on the VMachine to changes patches. Normally you can get around this by using "vst chunks" which is a feature of VST plugins which allow a chunk of data to be sent to automate the loading of sounds, settings and any control movement ect. Its easiest to think of a vst chunk like a saved state of the plugin, like a snapshot.fred12345 wrote:Ok cool, but cant you simply change the presets with the buttons on the V-Machine?MatthewSkinner wrote:Theres no reason that I know of why Proteus VX will not work on the vmachine in a future VFX release. It works in the vfx application except the plugin requires a mouse to load any sounds, so currently it is of no use to get running on the VMachine as a plugin which runs and can not load a sound is no use. If EMU added better VST chunk support then it would most likely be running right now after a wizard is written.
Why do you need a mouse for this?
Also do you know if Native Instruments Bandstand would work on the V-Machine.
Since the plugin does not support vst patch changes and it also does not support vst chunks correctly (or at all) you can not load a sound into that plugin without a mouse in the VFX software currently.
Anyone can download and use the VFX software to test this sort of thing even if they do not have a VMAchine.
Since the plugin seems to get wrongly detected you need to use this information in the vfxinfo.txt file
dll_name: Proteus VX VSTi/ProteusVX.dll
id: 1347573336
name: Proteus VX VSTi
is_synth: 1
parameter_count: 256
program_count: 1
has_editor: 1
editor_width: 950
editor_height: 640
The plugin with the above will then work in the VFX application (pc only tested), to work on the Vmachine it would need more added to the vfxinfo.txt file however there is no point to writting this as the plugin is useless if no sounds can be loaded.
Ask EMU about the possible lacking support for the above mentioned VST features and ask them if they will look into it and resolve it in a future version.
Some companies will want to see enough end users asking for it before they spend the time adding features so this goes for all plugins that have lacking patch automation and/or vst chunk support. This is why I suggest anyone who wants a plugin to run better or have support to email the plugin programmers to show how many people are wanting these features.
If you can not find a tool to convert sample libraries in the format that you own then have a look at programs like samplerobot which can open a plugin and automatically play and sample every key and create a soundfont. You can even have programs like samplerobot play via midi a real hardware synth and record every note and create your very own sample libary which you can play in a sample player like samplelord.

Ihave a V-Machine and use it mostly with a digital keyboard. I like the piano sounds. I also want to use it with my EWI USB. The pre-loaded sounds are OK, but it seems like you have to almost be a computer programmer to load new sounds. Is there a way for people not so computer literate to get access to good sounds without having to go to school? Later, Ray

Hey Matthew and others, in case you're wondering about Emu compatibility with the V-Machine, here's the response I got from the customer support:
-----
Dear Valued E-MU Customer;
All E-MU virtual software is only designed and meant to be used on a IBM type PC running Windows XP or Vista. We have no support for using E-MU software in the V-machine and there are no current plans to have E-MU software run on a V-machine.

This really sucks!

Not really, just use their soundsets in a good sampler.fred12345 wrote:Hey Matthew and others, in case you're wondering about Emu compatibility with the V-Machine, here's the response I got from the customer support:

B4, pro53 and many other plugins, have you tested the B4? hardly uses any CPU on a v-machine, please.. don't say things untill you tested them yourself, it makes your comments not very sensible.
The sun is going to shine in the morning, at least above the clouds.

First of all, hello to everyone.
I found this enormous trhead
Certainly this is not a fine remark, but I can't totally disagree.
I'm trying to play a bank with VB3 (thanks to Ziokiller
In a matter of fact even playing Truepianos alone with a buffer size of 264 I get digital clipping.
So, for sure I don't pretend to play NI kontakt piano, Colossus, Atmosphere or similar, but...if a Keyboard player can't at least play a decent piano and a good hammond (note, NOT togheter, but in 2 different midi channel)...my gosh...this is not acceptable!
So thinking about this problem I don't think is so strange if someone fear that loading (and playing!!!!) Kontakt 3 could seems to be a dream.
Now Im trying to increase the buffer to 512...let's see what comes out

If you have "digital clipping" then your VST's volume is set too high. If you have "clicks and pops" you have too small latency and you need to increase it.
