Problems with Kontakt2 on receptor

Hi everybody,

In the meantime, I've bought (a used) Kontakt2 and enjoy sampletekks Black Grand very, very much. However, I need help with two problems.

First, I can't save any settings from the edit page. Everytime I click "save", the receptor shuts down (well, not completely, but all plugins are restarted). Interestingly, I can save the single patch that contains Kontakt 2 in its current settings, so I am not completely lost. Still, annoying.

Second, every time after startup, it's like Kontakt hasn't loaded the key-off samples (loading time suggests it loaded them twice...). When I release a key, the respective note gets cut-off sharply with a slight click. Again, there is a workaround, i.e., loading the respective single patch (again). But this, too, is annoying. My feeling is that there is something wrong, furthermore, together with this workaround, receptor startup time amounts to several minutes.

And I have one more wish... I'd love to play in stretched tuning. But all settings from the tuning script apply to all octaves simultaneously. (I've posted this to the ni-forum and to northernsounds, let's see where the cleverest forum members are ;-))

any ideas?

thanks in advance,

Hi Mat123,

What version of Kontakt 2 did you install on Receptor?

I'm using an old version of Kontakt 2 (the one that we still had to install manually with the prep installer from Plugorama), and it works quite well. It is true that it sometimes makes the Receptor restart, but I have never experienced any of the problems you mentioned.
I noticed that Kontakt makes Receptor restart only when I'm using other specific plugins at the same time (especially some free plugins...), so I just avoid using these. Luckily, I found similar ones that worked well.

Another alternative: if you use Kontakt to play your own samples and instruments, you can also try Shortcircuit (version 1.1.2) from Vember Audio, which is a free sampler. Of course, the GUI is not as attractive, but it has all the most important features one can expect from such a plugin.

Hope that it helps...

My Kontakt2 reboot issues have happened when trying to load non-NKI samples and instruments. The not all that happy workaround I am using is to load the probematic non-NKI (GIGA,EXS, etc.)patches in Kontakt on my studio computer (Windows PC)and save them as NKI files. Then I transfer them to Receptor. Some patches will still crash Kontakt on my PC! Arggh!

thanks, demierra and nathankingcole for your suggestions!

@demierra: unfortunately, these problems also occur when there is no other plugin running. Switching to Shortcircuit is also not an option for me. I have installed Kontakt2 using direct install. I don't know if it really makes sense to uninstall it, and then reinstall using the standalone installer, but if I were to become completely frustrated I might try it...

@nathankingcole: I am using the NKI samples of Sampletekk's Black Grand, designed to work on Kontakt... Interesting that you say Kontakt2 is crashing on your windows PC, too, from time to time. So it might not be a receptor specific problem? Is Kontakt2 known to be a buggy program?

I can get crashes if I try to load a Kontakt patch with different samples in a slot where there already is one. I am now in the habit of loading a blank multi in between changing multis.

But anyway - I am wondering how much more (or less) stable Kontakt 3 is on the Receptor compared to Kontakt 2. Can anyone comment first hand?

My Receptor is out getting upgraded to a Receptor 2 PRO. I am thinking of upgrading Kontakt right away and installing version 3 instead of 2.

Sometimes I have the same problem as PhilAiken... and I do the same (load a blank multi before loading a new one)
