Man I think I'm paying too little for Zebra. I would gladly pay $250 for it. I live in the US and work over 40 hours a week and pay my taxes instead of feeding off the debt and economic stimulus package.

For those who do want a discount
Urs, could you please raise the price to $250 and offer students and part-time workers a discount of $50? Then EVERYBODY WINS!

I didn't know either... I'm a pretty good artist. I could have given you a great piece of synth art to hang on your wall.

Not complaining either. Strictly comparing to other synths in the same price range, this is by far the only one I've ever been completely satisfied with after dropping the cash.

I bought it full price. Which says alot when it's about two weeks pay here.
I did have a pic of my old Roland d20 but I was not in the pic, so no go. I should have used Photoshop to add me to it though.

You don't have to be in the pic... only the gear and the "Retired & Replaced" sign...

Oh, I must have misread that part. No matter. It was worth the full price anyway, and the result's of getting Zebra are amazing.

This is not the case with a lot of the plugin-developers (and i talk about well known companies too). It might be true for Steinberg, NI etc, but many of the others see it more as a discount to the normal license, hence you are actually often allowed to use it even for commercial usage (it wondered me too, but i've asked everytime i bought an EDU version). The only two things that comes to my mind is that often they don't have EDU prices on the updates, but instead allow EDU users to pay the normal (often small) update price and that its either NFR or not to be sold to non-edu users. You are also allowed to keep and use it after you stopped studying, however you can still not sell it to non edu users.

Your above answers (and some points about commercial usage) is the reason that i, for instance, bought Cubase, Wavelab, Kontakt and so on as non-edu and that some of my other stuff is bought under an EDU license. I always find out what the catch is, and if it doesn't bother me, i'll buy it. Perhaps the 'catch' sometimes is to get another happy user who'll tell about the product and how nice the company is?

I've discussed educational licenses with you before hehe, not that i think you should change your mind just telling you that the above points you gave are not true in many cases.

Urs, my only concern was the analogy with education and increased currency as well as art and it's association to poverty, nothing else, the rest dare I say was "filler", as for the last sentence that was advice maybe born out of my public relations studies, some would charge a lot for, and yes it was peppered with wit.

I agree with your logic and I'm in no way offended. Your use of helping with a discount is MORE then kind, the time you spend helping is generous and priceless even. I get what you are talking about with some educational discounts, it's like paying for a demo version so to speak. Code on sir, and thank you.

thank you for the response.

Unfortunately I won't be able to afford Zebra at the current price and so I'm looking at buying Z3ta+ (which is $79 edu). Under normal circumstances, i'd buy Zebra with that 50$ discount but this month I got into a shitty car accident (2 tickets) and defensive driving, fixing my car, etc., costs money that I don't have.

Anyways I'm sure zebra is a great software. Only wish I had it in my computer.

btw my hardware equipment includes Kawai K5kW, Alesis Fusion, Fantom S, Korg SD-Pro, Remote 25 LE.

You see, zebra would be a perfect replacement for the Kawai and the fusion. The fantom S is unreplaceable (sorry, be it zebra or giraffe) so is the korg.

All of it is paid for from live gigs.

I think you should save for Zebra and not waste your money on z3ta. z3ta's a cool synth but you can't compare it to the versatilty and sound quality of Zebra. I think in the meantime you should play with either ZebraCM or the demo of Zebra2.

Zebra's a deep synth and by playing with the demo you'll learn tons of cool stuff that will make you glad you didn't get z3ta and will make you want the full version of Zebra even more.

Also the Z3TA+ interface is annoyingly spreadsheet-like, whereas Zebra adapts to what you are actually using in a patch.

It is worth it to save a bit for the Zebra. It should be a thing you'll use in years to come, so what does one more month matter?
