I like the last gui. :-)

By the way, what happened with the new version of harptime pro?
I am still waiting for it.
Please release it. :-)

Post

Actually, all GUIs are nice. What about option to switch them as user wishes?

Looking good! I think I like the second and fourth from the left best.
Do you mean Strings_Dream_Synthesizer_3.jpg and sds_variated.jpg? Thanks.
Yup. Looking forward to trying this !

Hi
Congratulations, these ones are way better :)

These 2 GUI are the ones i like the most :

I still think, as far as design goes, that the effects shouldn't have so many parameters, in order to stick to the "less is more" (less features is more playing fun) paradigm which makes the String machines so alive...
In example, the reverb might have a simple switch with "small" and wide", and nothing in between, and same with the phaser : 1 switch ("obvious" and "subtle", in example), and 2 knobs...
Someting like 2 switchable modes and 2 knobs for each effects...

Post

Also looking forward to Liqih's version. I'm with you on the keep it simple philosophy, although at the same time I don't at all mind a couple additional parameters here and there.

Perhaps what you could do is have this standard version and then do an enhanced version with lots more bells and whistles down the line if it seems there would be a demand for it.
Available on iTunes, Amazon, etc.

+1 to these guis. Personal preference being the silver background.

I really like the look and concept of this instrument. And I don't mind the extra controls. Sometimes you want to take it a little beyond what the hardware instruments could do.

I just saw this thread. I'm looking forward for the this emulation! :-) I've been so crazy about old string machines for years now that I have most of the samples libraries/emulations that are around. That is why I made the Solina and the Eminent emulations. Since I finished developing them, I wanted to design a VST version using SynthMaker or another tool. But, unfortunately, I have no time anymore since my daughter was born last year.

From my experience: the chorus unit of all the string machines is as important, if not more, than the oscillators.

Check another of my Reaktor ensembles: Multi Ensemble 5500 which is my first proof-of-concept of the different oscillator shapes and chorus units that I found.

It gives you different configurations of chorus/ensemble units based on Roland, ARP and Eminent/Solina. I never finished another version that includes configurations based on Yamaha schematics.

Cheers,

Unfortunately I didn't upgrade to Reaktor 5 and I see those are all for 5 right?

BTW Thanks for the feedback on the GUIs, I hope to have an mp3 example soon

(the new designs were made by branis "remixing" my first GUI with his skills)

Hi liqih,

You can use the demo. They work perfectly well in it. And yes, they are Reaktor 5.

Here is the link to Multi Ensemble 5500: http://hyperfileshare.com/d/d99ea0bc

And what is that about? Did development not go well? Maybe they decided being in the effects business was more than enough.

I tried it and also the other two in the Reaktor user library, Solina-V String Ensemble v1.ens and Eminent-V 310 Strings Ensemble v1.0.ens, they all sounds good to me, but which one is more close to the old hardware I don't know, <grin>

Multi Ensemble 5500 has a phase issue, the oscillator are not looked to the same phase so you get variable spectrum.

The other two might be too "clean" compared to a real Solina, but I can't tell for sure.

My "Strings Dream" beta (fortunately) doesn't sound like those 3 Reaktor patches, better or worse? you will tell.

I'm waiting to listen to it! :-)
BTW, Multi Ensemble was my first try ever to design something, so it is really imperfect.

ok here is a quick and dirty (even some audio card glitches! Booh!), straight recording from NUSofting Strings Dream beta, I only used a mixture of these stops: Viola Violin Brass Horn, and only the first waveform of the 4 available, in the beginning the Chorus is off, then on in standard mode, then wide Chorus.

Also tweaked the envelope, Brightness and the HP filter controls,
BTW there are no other effects beside its Chorus, it seems there is some reverb but it's just the envelope shape,

obviously at 192 kbps the mp3 is darker than the WAV file
http://dashsignature.com/SDS/SDS_beta_audio.mp3

and don't ask me what crap I played, I just improvised badly,

more audio clips will follow
