I Just purchased Zebra 2.31 and am running it in Sonar 5. When I go to enter the registration code, certain keys give no response.. such as "R" and "Spacebar" it seems to happen with keys that share a function within SONAR. If there were some way to run the vst standalone I think I could enter the code, but for now.. Zebra won't accept input from half the necessary keys to type in both my username and registration code.

Try to download some other host and try in there again.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Click on the icon in the upper-right of the plugin window (the outside frame that SONAR adds around the plugin's own UI), which is located just under the x (close window) icon. This tells SONAR to send all keystrokes to the plugin.

After you have entered the registration code, you can click the icon again so that SONAR will handle its default keystrokes.

also, you could copy and paste the username and reg-code in.

Yep, I havn't yet managed to make my plugins work with Rs and spacebars in Sonar... I'd recommed to use a free goodie such as Herrmann Seib's SaviHost for the registration process.

(I'll be working on a more sophisticated approach though... it must be possible to override Sonar... other's have managed that, too!)

Cheers,

;) Urs

It is possible -- and very simple -- for the user to do this in SONAR. All you have to do is click on one button as per my post, above. That's exactly why Cakewalk put the button there.

Thanks a ton Urs, I used Savihost and it's all set.

Parrot, Sonar 5 has no such option, there's nothing underneath the window close/minimize icons... must not be available until later versions.

Thanks. I don't use Sonar, but this is the easiest solution to the problem, right?
Is this feature documented as "a hot key override button" in their manual or something you just stumbled upon?
In other words, it's something Urs would not have to fix on his end, but something that Cakewalk needs to make clear in the manual or help feature, yes?
So Urs, wouldn't need to fix it, if it aint broken. :)

You are welcome! Yes, in the documentation and tool tip, the purpose of the icon is described as allowing all keystrokes to be passed to the plugin. There was a lot of debate in the past as to whether or not plugins should handle all keystrokes. If a pllugin needs all keystokes then, obviously, it needs to get them. But, most plugins don't need most keystrokes and it is a hassle for users to lose the shortcut keystokes in the host by having them go to the plugin and many users felt that it was a hassle clicking back and forth between the host UI and the plugin UI to determine which UI got to process the keystrokes. So Cakewalk added an enhancement specifically to address this. Their solution is to let SONAR (the host) handle shortcut keystrokes by default -- which is the most convenient thing for most plugins. To handle the case where a specific plugin needs all the keystrokes, they put in a button that toggles the behavior so that a plugin can get the keystrokes, instead. I think most SONAR users are aware of this. The feature has been there for a number of years, although it might not be in version 5.
