Automation Problem in Cubase Studio4_anyone Else?

Hi guys,i think there is some kind of automation problem.
When i open a project ,i have to use midi learn on the mod wheel to re-establish automation with the Filter cut-off,on the track i have already started automating. Then it works again fine.
The other problem may be Cubase, not updating settings when i want to copy automation .It reads a number which should tell me where to set say decay again in the adsr, but the number doesn,t update until i start playback. So,if i want to simply copy levels from one place to another as i,m writing out a part ,i can,t.Also ,the number doesn,t change often so i have to guess where to put the level.Confusing.
Sorry its a bit vague.Just wondered if other users in Cubase were having issues like this.
Thanx carey

I think you are confusing MIDI control changes with VST parameter automation. Which are you using to automate the knobs? Why do you have to use midi learn on the mod wheel? What midi cc did you link the modwheel to? Please note that midi links made with midi learn on Sylenth1 are stored internally and NOT in a track. So if you load another track the links will not change.violetice wrote:Hi guys,i think there is some kind of automation problem.

This is normal behavior, the parameter value will only change when you hit play.violetice wrote:The other problem may be Cubase, not updating settings when i want to copy automation .It reads a number which should tell me where to set say decay again in the adsr, but the number doesn,t update until i start playback.
Why not? Just select the automation nodes and copy/paste them.violetice wrote:So,if i want to simply copy levels from one place to another as i,m writing out a part ,i can,t.
Yes it's a bit vague. Can you please explain exactly how you are automating a knob? Are you using a midi controller to record the midi control changes? Or are you using the R and W automation buttons in cubase to add automation to a knob?violetice wrote:Sorry its a bit vague.Just wondered if other users in Cubase were having issues like this.

thanx Lennard
1. No problem today with mod wheel.(i have it controlling Filter A cut-off)
2.Levels ,yes,ok i get it,no worries then.I meant when writing a part, not a question of simply copy paste in this case.I am automating the mod wheel to open and close the cut-off rapidly to achieve a nice effect!(i,m re-mixing a Bobina track for a re-mix contest).
Regarding how i record this,i usually hit read and write, then i extract midi data, then Show all automation to locate the sub channel with the mod wheel .Afterwards,i just edit on the sub channel, easy enough.
Today was different, i had a crash in Cubase Studio 4 yet again, and the project was invalid.I lost all my work from that session.
I use Gladiator 2 and Imposcar as well.Something has made my studio very unstable.Oh well.Keep on going. If i can replicate anything or confirm definitely who is the culprit i will.
Sylenth is great to work with anyway, the first soft synth i have used that is really expressive.Very good Trance sound.

I'm sorry but I still don't understand what you are doing exactly and why there is a problem with it. What do you mean with 'extract midi data'?violetice wrote:thanx Lennard

To control knobs you should be using either midi CC's OR use cubase's parameter automation, but you seem to do a bit of both at the same time. Is that why you are having problems copy/pasting the automation maybe? Because you copy the automation but not the midi data (or the other way around)?
Also, why do you need Midi Learn to do this? Are you using an external midi controller to move the modwheel on Sylenth1? Are you recording this while also writing the automation at the same time? (if so, you may be recording both midi cc automation AND cubase's parameter automation at the same time)
