Cubase 5: Why I switched (headquest)

I've thought many times about switching to Cubase. I did get a chance to try the latest version at NAMM, and also version 4 at a store before that. I am semi-familiar with it due to using it in the past as well as in school at one point(where I got to use many hosts from PT to DP to Cubase and more). It's got a few little things that I didn't like, but overall, I think it's a great host. But I just won't switch without a demo to REALLY get to know the latest version.

I have liked the Cubase interface for a while, minus a couple of issues. But it's clean, and the overall features of Cubase are extensive. I currently have Sonar and Samplitude, which feature-wise are pretty darned powerful themselves. So it hasn't been worth switching just for the sake of doing so. But who knows, if I find enough annoyances, anything can happen.

I do wish you luck headquest. I know it's been a struggle for you and you've had a roller coaster of a ride trying to find a host combination that works. I'm personally looking forwars to Studio One, though we don't know the full features yet. And you know, I just may hit you up for some questions if the day comes that I need some "Cubase info".

Good luck!

Wow, reading must not be one of your strengths. Sorry I made you read, does you head hurt? :hihi: Show me where I said I use a Dell. Please, go on.

Other than that, and based on the fact that you figured out I use a Dell based on what I said, I will disregard the rest of your reply. Just remember, C comes after B and B comes after A. And those strange dots are punctuation marks. Now go chase shiny objects.

(btw I have nothing against Dells, I wouldn't like BONES ripping me a new one)

Emphasis on "YOU" being capitalized. You can't play this game very well can ya?

So once again...how's that DELL working out for ya? Oh...Acer maybe? Damn.

Let's not speak on being educated. If YOU...ahem...YOU...were educated...

You'd probably be able to afford a luxury item or two of your own.

But you "create" music...on a Dell. No reason to be angry about that. Just don't hate me because I can afford better. :P
Well, I'm educated enough to know the diagnosis to the psychiatric condition you are suffering from.

I don't know much about psychiatric conditions, but I know what sort of "depression" is f**king with your pockets.

I'll stop before I'm banned for defending myself against the less fortunate.

You win. This one. But you'll lose again and again everytime you check your bank statement.

I'll spill a 'lil bit of liquor tonight for your Vista/economic troubles. Lata. 8)

Wow, is that all really necessary? Class warfare, is that right? So rich people choose Macs and poor people choose PC's? That's the most idiotic thing I've ever heard in one of these arguments. How foolish to flaunt money like that when you don't even know what people make.

By the way, I use Vista every single day. Works fine. Get over yourself already.

This was the most surreal "argument" I've ever had.

I've tried various hosts. I ended up with Tracktion but it soon lost its way and became outdated. I have never really liked Cubase. Bought Sonar Producer Edition 7 cheap - basic problems with my Scope card - so got pissed off with that.

Live is so easy to use. Now I have upgraded to Live 8 Suite and am looking forward to Max for Live as I have done a bit of stuff in Max.

Live is the DAW for me - with Sibelius to do the notation stuff (the others DAWS are DREADFUL with notation - I don't why they even bother IMHO  )

Odd indeed, like he seems hell bent on perpetuating the myth that all Mac users are douche bags. I mean c'mon Neverfall, really? It's a computer, not a luxury item. You can also spend $4000 on a Dell if you want to. Some people are Job's knob bobbers, some are Gate's masturbaters, some of us like to get in on the three (or more) way action. There is no wrong way if it feels good.

@Headquest: I know the feeling. It's really cool when you do find a work flow that works well and ...flows I guess. Congrats. I hope Cubase 5 works for you, it does look damn sexy. :)

@mac vs PC.......:bang:

@cubase 5. Especially after reading those articles in musictech and sound on sound I am very intrigued with "5". The thing is (since 4 is running well) I still nervous about jumping onto something that hasn't had a maintenance update yet.

Actually, not a bunch of places have the 5 update anyways

Well, I have more then enough money to buy a mac, but actually prefer a well equipped PC in every respect.

:P

@HQ

Good luck with C5. its a great app.

Best,
midi.

Yadda yadda yadda, but see that was the second time you pulled that little "I wasn't even talking to you" shit when in fact you were. What kills me is as much as you little guys supposedly hate Mac v. PC debates you sure can't stay out of one. YOU should not...speak on foolishness.

But hey...all is forgiven. Besides...

I bet you read that and said to yourself, "OH NO HE DID...INT." :x

Yeah that was a hot ass line right?

Nah we're not all douchebags. I'm just having fun...and uhhh just further exposing the bullshit defense strategies being thrown around in light of Headquest's refusal of advising his students to use a MAC/Logic combo. Until someone...ANYONE...can explain why it would be a good idea to tell these children to invest in a PC AND STILL DEFEND Headquest's rationalization for WHY HE THINKS THEY SHOULD...

Why not just STFU unless you're willing to say, "Well Headquest was right to say music can be made on either machine and yes Neverfall you were absolutely right that his students could run Bootcamp on Macs and still complete their schoolwork while either using OSX or Vista/XP to create music."

Cause ummmm..last time I checked I DID agree with Headquest saying that these students should be more concerned with the MUSIC rather than the TECHNOLOGY. I didn't agree that going with a Mac gives the impression that music production is exclusive to Mac/Logic users. I was simply agreeing with Ubiety until I was attacked by boys with out of control menstrual cycles defending the almighty Billy Gates.

Ahem...apparently the term "luxury" can apply to any damn thing you'd like from your particular viewpoint. I remember being 15 and having to type papers on a Brother Word processor. I had to work to buy myself a PC. Quite a luxury back in those days might I add. Anyway this thread reminds me why I refuse to buy anything else from Sam Ash. The things that a SALES ASSOCIATE will say to get you to buy Sonar...yet the customer CLEARLY STATES he wants to make music this weekend...he's curious about a MAC...has the money on hand to purchase a MAC...yet the sales guy keeps trying to pressure him into Sonar...

But there isn't one f**king PC in the entire store so he expects the customer to make a trip across town to Best Buy to use Sonar. WTF?

And Mac guys are douchebags?

What's this Dell nonsense? I'm using a Dell system at the moment, Windows XP, makes music fine, stable. The last time it crashed was today when I pulled a USB plug out which was powering an external HDD which had my swap file on it (oops!), other than that, I can't remember the last time IT crashed (I can remember the last time some software crashed, but it wasn't Windows' fault).

Don't dump on Dells please, or I'll dump on Macs. I figure it's a person's choice and, if it works for them and is stable etc, then it's cool. My Dell is rock solid. Doesn't mean they all are, but neither are Macs.

Dude just threatened to shit on a G5 so lets take it easy on the harsh comments.

I'm sorry though if you're still on a PC. Tough mid-life crisis that must be.

Eric @ JRR will surely be able to get it for you with his usual discounts.
The maintenance update will come in mid April.
And according to the official bugbase most of thr bigger current issues seem to be fixed.
For me personally the transition was seemless, no need to start up 4.5 even once since C5 came out.
And most of the current bugs are more like annoyances really, the only biggie being the spiking and the related realtime export issue which, at least here, can be worked around by toggling CPU1 affinity off and on again once.
Also C4 remains intact and working should you ever need it again.
