Well it's all fine and dandy in an utopia. The funny thing is, people preaching this stuff are usually the most corrupt and never go by their own philosophies (just look at the whole self-help market or those "spiritual truth" books and shit like that.. it's disgusting). Personally I'm much more a believer in a capitalist system that rewards people, gives benefits to people who work and shuns the ones who do not work. This is NOT equal to corruption and missuse of the system. Confusing the two is silly. Money is not evil, it's people who miss-use money and the monetary system that are evil. Power is what corrupts, money is a way to get power hence the common confusion.freddemillio wrote:At this point, all I can write is: +1.enroe wrote:The whole reason can also be another one: It can be a step against thejdt wrote:Well, from what I have gathered, the whole reason a developer offers a free plugin is to get you on the hook by offering you a quality VST so you will be more inclined to buy some of their higher end products. If they want to discourage commercial use, then they could easily incorporate the random noise/silence and time-out techniques that many do with their "give aways".

"commercialize everything and every ace". The current financial crisis
shows us the bad side of the "striving for profit at any cost". For
every ace of museum of tourist sight you have to pay pay pay - money is
the world! Money makes manager and even ordinary people eager, so that
they would do nearly everything. We've seen this scenario at big
companies. And we see this in our every day life.
Couldn't there be another concept?
Perhaps a modern world where not everything is measured by the money? A
world where unsalaried und honorary persons working for society are
cherished much more. A world where a person is not appreciated only by
the size of his/her wallet?
A dialogue in Spaceship enterprise comes into my mind: A visitor form
the 20th century is amazed and asks: "This must have cost a lot of
money, doesn't it?" Captain Picard answered: "We don't have any money.
Money was abolished in the 23rd century already."
Even today we know the "Open source group" with their special
"non-commercial" spirit. We know the Unix-world and we know this
kvr-freeware world. We know groups who discuss the meaning of money in
an abstract way: Does it improve the humanity in our world? Or is it a
means of power and supression? Of course, this is a complex, large
discussion, never ending perhaps. And I think the idea of protecting an
area where money has no meaning is very charming.
Considering these ideas the "freeware offer" here becomes a totally
altered aspect, a philosophical aspect of another society and future
... so maybe this is it, what Daniel wants to implicate here?
He creates his marvellous plugins for us. And we artists use it - all
for free - without money involved. And Daniel just wants that also in
all results of our creativity money is not involved. A honourable idea.
Greetings, enroe.
Nicely said.
I'm all for giving people stuff for free and gladly give advice, beta test, do whatever, all for free. However, once a person demands that you do something for free, they themselves need to prove that they can live by their own standards. This is where it usually falls apart. Hypocrisy is the most common disease in the world. It's so easy to blame systems, behaviors, movies, magic, a God, a group of people for anything, and then completely forget about oneself.
Until everybody, and I mean really E V E R Y B O D Y, every single individual on this planet, goes through their common chores in their daily life (be it what it may, a homeless guy picking through his trash, a millionaire flying in his private jet) and can act as a compassionate human being, doing the right thing, all the time, from every moment on, we will not have an utopia for society. It will simply not happen until people take complete responsibility, at every level, for themselves and their own actions in every situation.
For example: A homeless guy that blames some millionaire from not giving any money to society doesn't, in my opinion have this right, until he does the same. Once he gives some himself, how little or much it is doesn't matter one bit, only that it is proportional in that it really is a donation and not an excuse, that's when he gets the right to criticize.
.. throwing the first stone and all that fluff ..
Cheers!

PS. sorry for the way off-topic
PPS. .. no, I am not able to live by the above ideology, I am just a man after all. I wish I could but it'll take a few more reincarnations to get there..
