*Ahem* Anyway, "mu" basically just means "no." One monk asked Master Joshu, "Does a dog have Buddha nature?" To which Joshu replied, "No." Another monk asked him if a dog lacked Buddha nature, and Joshu replied, "No." Many people want to reify this "mu" into a Formless Thing, a Capitalized Essence beyond True and False -- but Joshu just meant that the questioners had false assumptions, so he gave them the opposite of what they expected. (Google "skillful means" and upaya.)
It's not wise to fool Buddha Nature.
