Same here just like it's always been ever since SX3.something .
One notable exception though : The spiking with quadcores and low latency.
Fortunately there's a reliable workaround: Toggle CPU 0 affinity off and on again after starting Cubase, so it's more an annoyance.
And about the midiportfilter :
I used to need it a long time ago, Steinberg fixed something and from then on it has been working fine for me without the filter. I'm using the onboard MIDI ports of my RME Digiface. A friend of mine has a cheapo mAudio MIDI interface (2in/4out) which also works without filter.
So it probably is driver dependent.

EDIT:

Nope! I'm going to be brave and disciplined.........I should feel blessed to have what I've got......(god, I hope that feeling lasts longer than a couple of days  )

Still very happy here, but there are two issues I spotted (neither is hugely upsetting, but here they are):

1) Pentagon I crashes Cubase. I have this synth from my Sonar days, so it's whatever version Cakewalk supplied with that. It works fine in Ableton, but not C5.

2) REVerence causes ASIO spikes at low latency when using the bigger patches, such as the cathedral ones. The solution is to open up the buffer on my audio interface to around 512 samples + which is okay because a plug like REVerence is obviously not added until after tracking is completed.

If there are actually fixes to either of these that anyone knows, please share.

And thanks for the info on the MIDI delay thing, which I will sort out too (although I had not yet noticed any problem).

Otherwise, as I said, very happy here. Love VST expression, the beat creation tools and Variaudio by the way, so anyone considering upgrading, I would say GO FOR IT :D

Cheers everyone.

You did 5.01 right? The reason I ask is that there were allegedly reverence fixes in that.

Post

Yes, 5.01.

Post

bummer, was hoping that would help.

Maybe there's a way to adjust its' latency (as with the Cakewalk Perfect Space one and SIR for example)...?

I'd be interested in info about Cubase 5's cross platform behavior... For example, can I open projects done on OSX Cubase on Win Cubase and vice versa? Is the same file format used on both platforms?

I'd assume that I can open a Win-Cubase file on OSX-Cubase if I don't use any plugins at all, but what if I use only plugins which I have on both platforms?

headquest,
try the following trick :
Start Cubase
Then open TaskManager, Processes, locate Cubase 5.exe, right click, Set Affinity, toggle CPU0 off and on.
You have to do this once per session.
Works fine here, ymmv.
Haven't tried with Reverence though (don't use convolution much), but it fixes the UAD-2 spikes.
The problem is known and they're working on it.

Cool, thanks for the tip.

I've finally overcome the shock and finished my therapy. You see,I have been following your likes and dislikes quite closely for years, and when you made that post the thread title was enough to send me into a downward spiral of confusion.I'm feeling much better now and I hope you are happy with your new life. There will always be a little that little pang though....always.
