did you tried some sampletekk libraries (3-5 GB) with samplelord and the v-machine? you wrote it played even the biggest giga-files. what do "biggest" mean (in GB) ?

@vfxau

now new vfx-software/firmware. when can we expect a new version? april, may ....?

max

Hi,

New VFX software should be out this month (we are already in April) I would say this week.

In regards to sample libraries, I am not sure what is the biggest, need to see what the biggest is, but if it streams samples it should not matter.
The sun is going to shine in the morning, at least above the clouds.

Post

My biggest Gigasampler libraries are up to 2GB. But bigger sizes shouldn't matter because Samplelors streams the files.

Post

Yes, but not ALL the samples are streamed. Only parts are streamed, the beginnings of all samples are loaded in RAM because they are fetched faster from there... so your limit is 1 GB of samples you can load into RAM, regarding V-M.

So, depending on the direct-from-disk settings, YMMV on how big libs you can actually load.

We are already testing one, that is all I can say.

Hi Danny,

Can you already tell us more about this update?

I'm at the point to buy a laptop and Brainspawn Forte because of the CPU issue of the V-Machine. Hoewever I prefer/like the size of the V-machien very much! The rack is not an option for me.

Can you give us any info about the new CPU speed and max. RAM size?
I would feel terrrible when I have bouhgt a new laptop and Brainspawn just before you announce a great update for the V-Machine

Hey, V-Rack is also due before autumn, so there's a solution :)

I wonder how SM thinks the CPU upgrade should be done. Do we have to return the actual V-M and wait for the new cpu? Or will they send the new cpu to registered users (that buy the upgrade, of course)? can the upgrade be done by the users? will it be cheaper than buying a V-M with the new cpu?

just guessing...

V-machine Prices have dropped. 329 Euro!
http://www.thomann.de/be/sm_pro_audio_v-machine.htm

I wonder how much the Vrack will cost.

The Receptor 2 with 4 Gb Ram, dual core, 500 Gb (the total workstation with sampletank, sampletron,...) is shipping for +/- 2000 Euro.

And the selling price for Musebox will be $ 899 that today means 683 €....

...if only I had waited a little bit more :bang: :bang: :bang:

Ya I bought one a little over a month ago for $500. DARN

Oh well, I have to say I've been pretty happy with it though, using it live for tonewheel organ & minimoog. It's been rock-solid and super reliable. The only trouble I had initially was understanding the VFX software but once over the hump it's great.

Wish I could say the same about being happy with it,
I'm waiting and hoping for the CPU upgrade as I only use piano and the odd
rhodes sound. Fingers crossed that the people at SM PRO can make it happen.

I bought mine in November from Thomann for 499 euros + 20 for shipping, and if I wanted to sell it now, I wouldn't get half the money I spent, after less than 6 months.

At this point I think that the CPU upgrade should be FREE of charge. More than an "upgrade", we should call it a "fix".

This note in the product description on Thomann's website is intriguing:
ATTENTION: NO MONEY BACK, IF THE V-MACHINE AND/ OR TH INCLUDED SOFTWARE WAS REGISTERED !!!

I mentioned this on this forum a month ago ....the price in the U.S. has dropped $100 in 4 months I Paid $600 for mine and still really cant use it for anything other than a over glorified Soundfont player. Charging for an upgrade @ this point adds insult to injury. I've lost money on hardware before , but never in under 2- 3 years of using it. Its funny this topic comes up over and over again ... I couldn't sell this thing for half of what i paid for it. The folks at Muse research are probably laughing all the way to the bank. I better stop before someone gets on me for being too negative. :x
You make it if you try

Post

well, I wouldn't say laughing all the way to the bank but I doubt anybody @ Muse is sweating over the fact that they are paying for the medium with which the V-Machine is being promoted at this point ;)
