My situation: I'm installing Battery 3 onto my Receptor Pro using Direct Install. Data's been transferring from my Mac to Receptor at a virtual crawl of around 3.3KB/s, according to the Mac's Activity Monitor, for the last 25 hours. At this rate I think it will literally take about a month to install!

Should I just pull the plug and start over? Any ideas why this would be so slow? Any way to really know how much data has been transferred? The path is Mac-->Linksys gigabit switch --> Receptor. I've never had any problems in the past with slow data transfer between my computer and my Receptor, though I'll admit I've not installed large amounts of samples before, either. Still, 25 hours straight and it's still workin' on the first DVD???

Anyway, I'll keep scratchin' my head, but if you have any ideas I'll take 'em.

Thanks,

batgab

More troubleshooting info:

I dragged a 5.5MB photo into the Receptor's My Documents folder and saw a quick spike of ~ 2.9MB/s network traffic.

Also, I see that the data rate (~ 3.3KB/s) out of the Mac is just slightly lower than the data rate (~3.5KB/s) of data coming back to the Mac. Maybe this is simply the communication protocol (send, acknowledge, etc.) and nothing else. This makes me wonder if the two units are communicating with each other but are not actually transferring files/samples....

Alright, I opened a support ticket. I noticed that Direct Install says it's for Battery 3.0.0, and that the Battery Installation application on my install disk was v3.1. Maybe that's the problem? If so, that'd be similar to the problem of (not) installing Addictive Drums, where Direct Install has not kept up with later versions. We shall see...

It shouldn't take that long - you aren't dragging the contents of the 1st DVD over to Receptor are you? Because you only need to drag the second DVD samples over after the first two steps (DVD 1 install, update, then drag samples).

No, no dragging involved with my problem. Just clicked the Direct Intall "button" to start the installation from install disk 1, but the install stops shortly thereafter. Will check to see if there's any response yet to my support ticket.

Thanks, buscemi!

Well you are welcome though I was no help at all. I'm betting it is a version issue like you suspect. Same as with Addictive Drums 1.1.1 installer that apparently still needs some work...

That's what I'm thinkin'...

Case closed! As I mentioned in another related thread, I have now gotten Battery 3 installed on my Receptor, thanks to Kevin at Muse. Bottom line, my OS (Mac OS 10.4.11) apparently does not allow remote access to my CD/DVD drive, hence no Direct Install. Bummer! But anyway, this particular problem has been solved, now I just have to replace my old, slow, RAM-deficient iMac with something else so I can use OS 10.5.6 in order to use Direct Install. Oh well, it was inevitable, I guess...
