Hi, I have a Receptor like yours except with a bigger hard drive which I will be upgrading to the Pro Max Version which has 4GB RAM and a 1 TB hard drive.Depending on what kind of plugins you have installed on your Receptor you can try creating snaphots{ Actually I have not tried this myself for reasons I will explain but do a search on this forum about that. If you plan to use CPU heavy plugins such as Ivory, Kontakt3 etc.using snapshots for quick program changes won't work well with your Receptor or mine which is why I am upgrading my Receptor to the Pro Max version among other reasons. The extra 2GB of RAM do make a difference along with the better processor on the Pro Max when it comes to being able to load more plugins. However it does cost more.

2 things here.
1. I think you may be confusing RAM intesive with CPU intensive.
2. These are the EXACT kinds of plugins (Ivory and Kontakt) where you can save loading time by using Snapshots.

Sanpshots are just collections of multis with the same VST's instantiated, but different mixer settings. So you could have a set of snapshots with say, 8 instruments loaded, and all but one muted in each snapshot. You can then switch between them more or less instantly. Muted mixer channels do not use CPU. The limit to this is how much RAM you are using for samples, as the instruments in the muted channels still take up whatever RAM they have dedicated to them.

Oops! I meant RAM intensive plugins.

THANKS GUYS FOR YOUR ADVICE AND TIME.IT SEEMS THAT SNAPSHOTS IS THE SOLUTION...BUT.YEAH THERE'S ALWAYS A "BUT".I NAMED THE SNAPSHOTS AS MY SEQUENCES,"BUT" I HAVE TO CHANGE IT MANUALLY ON MY RECEPTOR.THE QUESTION HERE IS:IS THERE A WAY THAT SANPSHOTS CHANGE AUTOMATICALLY ALONG WITH MY SEQUENCES WITH NO HANDS INVOLVED IN MY RECEPTOR???????

I can't even read your post because IT IS IN ALL CAPS!!!

you can always send program changes from your sequences to change snap shots.

in setup view, set Receptor to ignore bank select and target multis.... choose an open midi channel and send the receptor program changes to switch the snap shots.

place the program change maybe a bar or two at the top of the sequence.

you should be good to go!!!

First off, I guess your caps lock is broken on your keyboard, which would be the ONLY REASON YOU WOULD BE YELLING AT THE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO HELP YOU!!! Just kidding... it is easier to read though when your posts aren't in all caps, however.

Next, you might want to consider connecting a mouse, monitor and ASCII keyboard directly to the Receptor at first so you have a more visual environment in which to work... once you've gotten the hang of Receptor, you can pretty much do most anything you want from the front panel, but if you are working alot with programming presets, you would definitely benefit from being able to see a bank of presets in its entirety, and being able to name a preset using the keyboard is definitely a plus. Of course you could connect your laptop or other computer to it and view the interface from your computer screen using the crossover cable you received with your unit, but that involves making sure your computer is set up to do networking and that may or may not be something you want to do right when you get it out of the box.

To answer your question: Receptor absolutely acts like a sound module, and will respond to program changes from your sequencer. You can always verify that you are actually sending a program change by viewing the SETUP window where it reports the last valid program change you have received. However, the program change behavior in Receptor is highly configurable, both on what channel it receives program changes as well as what those program changes actually do.... Program changes can be targeted to a source (a single plugin instrument) to a SINGLE preset (one channel's worth of programs) or a MULTI, which can change the entire mixer contents with a single program change. And, as others have pointed out, there are two kinds of MULTIs, the regular MULTI where each program change is an entirely independent entity and can have anything in it, or a SNAPSHOT MULTI which "freezes" the contents of the mixer but still allows you to select from whatever plugins you have in that particular mixer config, including doing layers and splits with them.

One thing you might want to consider is turning off "Bank Select" by selecting "Turn off Bank Select and Target :MULTIS", which ensures that you don't inadvertently respond to a Bank Message and go some place you didn't intend. Bank messages are notorious in the sense that some devices send a default bank message (MSB 000 / LSB 000) if you don't enter in a different one to send, and that ends up sending you to the bank that is the first in the MULTIs list, which may or may not be where you want to go!

Next you are going to want to verify that your sequencer is sending preset messages on the channel that you are listening to on Receptor. If you are unsure, you can always select ALL in the Program Change Channel menu, and that listens to all the channels at once for bank changes.

Finally, there is always the "I think I though that you think I thought you said what you said" kinda thing that is inherent with program changes in the first place, especially since some companies count program changes from 0 to 127 and some count them from 1 to 128. So be sure to check what is actually being sent by looking that the PROGRAM CHANGE display in the Setup menu... it will tell you precisely what program change message was sent, and you can always just find that program "slot" that was sent in the bank and just save the patch you want to that particular slot...

You might want to you spend some time viewing the videos that are on line, especially the chapters that cover programming presets. Admittedly that doesn't cover sending program changes on your sequencer, but understanding the difference between a SOURCE, SINGLE, and MULTI bank is pretty important if you want to get the most out of your Receptor. However, once you become familiar with the operation, I think you'll really appreciate the freedom and power it brings to your rig...
