I did some a/b in both.
Aether seems to produce a fuller and warmer sound, whereas Redline has a good definition, but something in the low mids and low end are not just so good as Aether's. Also, with Aether I could easily get more '3d' feel than with Redline. But Redline beats many reverbs out there, it is a very inovative product.

I've been A/Bing these today also. After a few hours of testing I prefer Ather. They are both good though. Ather just sounds a bit better to my ears. It's hard for me to quantify the difference.zerocrossing wrote:I've been super busy lately, but has anyone done a side-by-side with Redline Reverb and Aether?
With the Ather GB currently going on in the marketplace, and Redline's generous fully functional 60 day license, I can afford to get both. I'm planning on joining the Aether GB tonight. I'll also use Redline for 60 days and then purchase it near the end of that time if I still like it. It'll allow me to live with Redline for a while to see if I really work well with it before committing.
My suggestion is that if you are on the fence with these 2, go ahead and join the Aether GB, and then sign up for the Redline 60 day evaluation license. Redline will always be this cheap, Aether will not. This GB is a great deal for anyone interested in Aether.

Okay, now I have a problem... The demo will no longer open. It freezes my whole computer when trying to open this in Live 8 (win, XP 32).
I have to force the computer to turn off by holding down the power button as Ctrl+Alt+Delete won't even come up.
Any ideas, or anyone else have the same problem?

In response to the GB going on, a member of another forum asked me if I could run a snare sample through Aether for him and post the results. He is ready to join the GB but for some reason he doesn't want to install the demo. I advised him to install it anyway but I also recorded the snare sample for him.
I figured I'd post it here to because often a snare hit shows the weakness of a verb. I'll let these samples speak for themselves.
Ok. Here's the demo for you. I tried to run the snare sample through a variety of presets to show what it can do.
http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/26/ ... 20Demo.wav
The first hit is the dry snare sample.
The next 5 hits are from some of the Drum presets.
The next 3 hits are from larger hall type presets.
The last 2 hits are running through more ambient special FX presets.

and that means...rsantiago wrote:In short words: Aether is fatter than Redline to my ears.
Has anyone made a 'lite' skin? I don't care about graphics... at all. I don't even care if it looks like Windows95 GUI even DOS GUI lol! As long as it's not in my way and not annoying me, I can even use that!scottkane wrote:Its because of the so many graphics that it needs to load...

@ZergFood... Have you tried comparing the two?ZergFood wrote:and that means...rsantiago wrote:In short words: Aether is fatter than Redline to my ears.
I definitely like both Aether and Redline's reverb. I'll be picking up Aether through the GB and Redline soon after since the do not seem to overlap in sound.
I do have to agree with rsantiago, that it sounds "fatter" and I'm sorry I can't be more technical than that. Aether seems to have warmer sound, again sorry not a technical term.
This is not a "better than" the other opinion either. I'm already a big fan of the redline reverb since it sits so easily in a mix, but I don't believe redline can sound like Aether for when you need something a bit more thick in tone.

To Galbanum:
I would be really happy if I could use the mouse scroll wheel for changing values on all circular knobs. Almost all of my vst-instruments and plugins do that som I'm quite used to it. What do you think? Possible to include in a future update?

Load time is not entirely b/c of the GUI. Other things are also loaded into RAM which take some time on the first load.ZergFood wrote:and that means...rsantiago wrote:In short words: Aether is fatter than Redline to my ears.

We are making a 2D style lighter skin though also with this goal in mind.
I should mention again though that the load time is only long-ish on the first instance in project.

Yes we plan this.jensa wrote:To Galbanum:

Yeah but they're so many tweaks it's hard to compare them, especially with 2C Aether -- I mean with certain presets it may sound more 'smooth' and less 'grainy', but with others it may sound different, etc...elxicano wrote:Have you tried comparing the two?

But I really don't get when people (and even ads) say 'warm' and 'fat' sounds, sorry. I prefer 'smooth', but I'm not sure if it means the same thing though.

Funny, I always avoid the word smooth just because everyone seems accustomed to fat or warm. I'd agree that smooth is more accurate when speaking generally about aether (to my ears at least and I'm guessing yours). The only reason I was thinking "warm" was just because the other day when I was running a guitar loop through Aether using the tunnel preset, it reminded me of warm tube amps for some reason.ZergFood wrote:Yeah but they're so many tweaks it's hard to compare them, especially with 2C Aether -- I mean with certain presets it may sound more 'smooth' and less 'grainy', but with others it may sound different, etc...elxicano wrote:Have you tried comparing the two?

I still haven't gone into all the tweaking for either Aether or Redline, but it looks like a lot of fun for both.

I want to personally thank you Galbanum and 2C Audio , for creating such an amazing reverb plugin, that has revolutionized my musical possibilities.
I have read that Aether is the first software reverb that challenge real hardware units like Lexicon PCM96 and Eventide H8000FW
still saving up money to buy an HW reverb, but would be interested to hear some one with the experience how Aether compare with the Hardware reverbs and maybe impulse reverbs, until I tried Aether I was going to buy the Acousticas Lexion 300 Impulse Responses, but now I am not sure anymore.
I use mostly long space reverbs, Jakobs ladder is my favorite preset so far, the only thing I change is the decay time to 100%. I still need to experiment a lot more, but I see a lot of potential in this
plugin already, and it sounds very good.
I create ambient music so the reverb is almost the most important instrument. All the sounds from Omnisphere and Alchemy sounds very fat and organic through the Aether reverb, it is really amazing how good and interesting it sounds when you play it through Aether.
Some people are complain about the CPU usage, maybe they do not understand that calculating reverbs is a complex and demanding process, and I think it is right of 2C Audio to not compromise the sound quality. On my Core i7 the cpu usage is not any problem, it does not use many %, in fact if an software reverb is going to compete with hardware reverbs I think we need maybe even more cpu power, cause in theory I see no reason why an software reverb would not be able to compete with an Hardware reverb which also is based on digital algorithms.
Omnispheres Reverb unit have any cpu load knob, where you could decide how cpu demanding the reverb is going to be. I also would not mind that in render mode
the reverb should use an even more complex algorithm which sounds even better.
And Algorithm that is too heavy to be played real time.
