That all sounds awesome. The Logical Editor is one thing that I'm intrigued by, but never fully understood it. What can you do with the Project Logical Editor?

BTW, Cubase 5 coming on Thursday! YAY!

But from those I've talked to, it's now very stable, and turned into a very robust application(though it was already pretty deep).

Considering all this, and considering how they are still adding cool features like VST Expression is a good thing. Something tells me that the Yamaha purchase of Steinberg has been a good one.

I mean, think back a couple of years and this thread would have been trashed by now with people who don't like Cubase for whatever reason, and recommending their apparent "superior" host.

Add to that how many people I've seen that are jumping to Cubase because of all this, and it's a pretty good day for Cubase, IMO.

Perhaps somewhere along the line people have learnt tolerance and acceptance of other's DAW choices?? Or we're all just tired of the arguments that go absolutely nowhere and have no point. I think we'd all agree that superiority is in the eye of the beholder! Given the wide range of very good audio software I think it's a great time for all Computer Musicians!

Well, I wasn't trying to say that anything is or is not superior. My point was just that Cubase doesn't get the grief it used to. It seems they have really refined what it there and gotten rid of most showstopping bugs(or all, who knows) and even the Cubase forums are much more nice than they used to be. Almost like the stigma surrounding Cubase has changed in general.

Don't kid yourself, KVR will always have a lack of tolerance of other's DAW choices! And it goes far beyond KVR to specific forums for specific hosts. But hey, it's nice to dream, eh? :D

Holy crap! You got it!! Congratulation!!
You can do all sorts of crazy stuff with the Project Logical Editor, like deleting all muted MIDI tracks, say; open/close all track folders, find certain types of tracks or any such complex track behaviors. Again, something I need to explore further. Something tells me you'll be digging into some of this deeper stuff before me! Glad to have you join The Borg! :borg:  :P

It seems that all my 'bases belong to them. I have been assimilated. :-o :o

Yes, that is a problem with the Waves Bundle. Besides the long startup times, you will also notice an increased memory usage.

Waves has released a patch to solve these problems, though they do not advertise it. You should get in contant with Waves Support and they will supply instructions to download a new version of the 6.0.7 Waveshell-VST file from their FTP site. Then have to trash the "Vst2xBlacklist, Vst2xPlugins, VstPlugInfo" in the Nuendo/Cubase App Data folder along with the Waves prefs located at "C:\Documents&Settings\your user\Application Data\Waves Audio\Preferences"

:uhuhuh:

I get really really slow load times with cubase 4.02-4.5.2! MAC or PC. I have never owned any waves plugs.

For me, the worst one is kontakt player 2.2.4, but that is a known issue. In reaper beta 3 (ducks, ooooo you missed!) anything I throw at it loads just about instantaneously.

I've always been concerned about that though.......

Post

Urgh, tell me about Kontakt start-up times. :tantrum:

Thing is, most hosts just scan the plugin (properly) once and then store the details.

Does Cubase actually do the full body cavity search on plugins on every startup??? (MUST be an option, surely?)

Post

na, it's just kinda hit and miss. Though 4.5.2 does scan more (god, how I wish I'd have stuck with 4.1.3) kontakt (player/basis) is constantly a problem.

Yeah, I can go make a pot of coffee during some startups

what does everyone think of the bundled vst's?

Post

I personally prefer Live because it's quicker (and less anal)for me and Cubase seems like bricklaying or playing with Lego for me. But audio editing is heaps better in Cubase....don't even think Live has one.

I don't use many of the vst's, but the vsti's are starting to be invaluable........no really.....spector, prologue, mystic, embracer, and halion one all have their place!

I don't have (and am putting off) c5.........though I find beatdesigner intriguing....

No big deal.
Play C#5 instead and tune down a half step. :dog:

The latest version (5.0.1) of Cubase doesn't scan anymore on startup. Now there is a button in the plugin management window to force a search for new plugins.
