MU.LAB 2.5.9 has been released:
  • New: You can now use multiple audio device outputs instead of a single stereo output. This is useful, for example, to create monitor mixes.
  • Tuned: "Choose Skin" now properly selects the current skin on opening the dialog
  • Fixed: "Choose Skin" had a case-sensitivity issue
  • Fixed: Sequence editor: In some cases, the controller/pitchbend graph wasn't properly drawn
  • Fixed: Using unconnected MultiSampler plugs in the MuSynth could cause a crash
If you already have installed MU.LAB 2.5.5 or higher then you can just install the latest application patch following these instructions:

http://www.mutools.com/mulab/mulab-upda ... -patch.txt

That way you don't have to re-setup anything.

If you did not yet install MU.LAB you can download the full package from http://www.mutools.com/downloads.html

multiple device outputs...

the best modular area just got better

Post

Thanks for the update :)
The multiple audio device output is a great addition, but there's no option for selecting the output from within the mixer, even after an output is added in the modular area (there's only output 1). Is this intentional? I think it would be handy to have that option.

You're totally right.

MU.LAB 2.5.9b is on its way out...

Post

MU.LAB 2.5.9 has been updated to 2.5.9b:

Choosing an output for a rack now properly shows all outputs.

How to install: Same as for 2.5.9 -> see first post in this topic.

Post

Thanks!! :D

Post

OK... This is with 2.5.9b. So I select outputs 1, 2, 7 and 8 on my Echo MiaMIDI. If I then go to select a Rack target of Audio Output, only one target ("Audio Output") is shown. Is that expected behaviour?

Post

It's about creating multiple Audio Outputs in the MPA.

Previously with MU.LAB you could only target the first activated stereo output on your device because there was no way yet to tell MU.LAB that you want to target another activated output.

So now you can edit (e.g. double-click) an Audio Ouput (MPA) and choose to which activated audio out pins the audio should go :)

Post

Ah, I see! It works... (and in the rack)... not the most intuitive, though. Is there no way you can pull through the selected pin names from Audio Setup into a popup to select from here? Also, right-click should have "Choose first pin" on, as well as the double-click method. ("Always try right-click" is a MU.LAB matra ;)) In fact, I think "Choose first pin" should read "Choose left channel" or something more indicative of what it's for.

Post

Indeed showing the pin names will be an improvement. That's planned for later. There was a little difficulty to do so right away and as i'm concentrating on M3 i did not yet invest that time at this point, but atoh i wanted to release the possibility to already use multiple outs.

Which right-click do you mean? Right-clicking an Audio Output?

There you got "Edit" which does give you this dialog.

Or do you mean something else?

nice uptate, thanks!
In the future there will be robots!

I'm talking about the last slot in a rack, which acts differently from other places. Double click when it's "Audio Output" and the selector pops up OK. Single click lets you pick the target (similar to other rack slots). But right-click only pops up "Show Event Output". I'm asking that this also have "Edit" (or whatever).

I notice that, even though I've got MIDI Outputs selected in Edit->MIDI Setup, when Event Output is shown, the only MIDI target is "No MIDI Output". Do I need to add a port in the MPA before I can select it in a Rack? Ah, yes. That works (though I still feel it's a little odd that I can't do it from the Rack menu :)).

Ah, sure! :dog:

Technically/conceptually it's an OK system because it's good to abstract the music from the effective hardware.

But i agree that 'the link' should be made more obvious.

Will work on it.

What i could do is that when you click the rack slot to choose a MIDI output then check whether there is a MU.LAB MIDI Output plug for each activated MIDI port in the MIDI Setup, and if not then automatically add the missing ones. Not sure if this should be done 100% automatic or with a little user dialog?
At first i would say 100% automatic.

What do you think?

Post

I'd be inclined to list the ones in MIDI Setup but only add the MIDI Output plug when it's chosen (but that last part should be automatic). Maybe even have it a bit like chosing a plugin -- list the "existing" ones and have a "New..." to pick one of the remaining available ones (disabled once all are used up).

Post

Ok, taken notes.

Cheers!
