Hlis93, thanks for your response. I've altered the UI a bit following your advice, but I also changed the color scheme to gray. Gray seems more neutral than blue and easier to work with. Of course, the danger now is making the UI too bland. I may change up the header following your example set which should help lighten things up.

At any rate, here's the new version:

Here's the super filter using the Cobalt theme. I used SkinMan to recreate the panels and labels using Cobalt's colors and fonts. Then I reused elements grymmjack created for me and dropped them into SkinMan.

I think the result is ok. I don't like the envelope follower module; there's too much empty space there. But I'm not sure how to organize it so that all the modules line up nicely and symmetrically without putting some extra space somwehere.

I created a smaller version of the UI I did prior to the Cobalt themed one. I hope I haven't made it too small.

Cobalt's colorscheme is really nice, why not use that you for your line of plugs?

I've thought about that, and I've reached a point where I have the necessary skills with SkinMan to pull of reusing the graphics from Cobalt.

Two reasons I'm hesitant is that one, I got several comments from customers and would-be customers that Cobalt's UI is too dark. I could try to lighten it up, but I doubt the results would be very good. Second, I'd love to come up with something new on my own using SkinMan/KnobMan that's useable and distinct. So maybe a bit of pride there in wanting to create everything myself.

But reusing Cobalt's theme is something I'm going to consider.

This is probably bad etiquette, but I started another thread requesting feedback on my UI in the effects forum; I really appreciate the feedback I've gotten here, but I'm hoping to get a broader response on the effects forum. At any rate, here's the latest version. I like it the best of the one's I've done so far.

I really like this one as I said in the other thread. I don't know if the use of the texture in the center blocks is working, to me it looks more like a leaf wallpaper then metal or plastic, would a solid color there be better? the noise on the rack ends is nice.

how about something like this on the LCD readouts? Just to add some dynamics to the light...

Hi fellows,

KnobMan & SkinMan are just wonderful tools.

As a developer I dont have much time to play around with them, so I am looking for a designer to develop some knobs/sliders/buttons/backgrounds etc for the upcoming version of SynthMaster (v2.0), using those tools.

The new version of SynthMaster will come with a WYSIWYG GUI Editor that allows any user to customize their GUIs, so that there can be multiple GUIs for SynthMaster (each preset will specify its GUI skin id as well)

Anyone interested? Just pm me.

Thanks!

What kind of knobs do you need? And what kind of gui do you want? Vintage/Futuristic etc.

I can start with vintage, and in time we can add more skins, as long as the product sells so that we have the money to invest.

Thanks. :) I gave it a shot (and I also redid the drop down boxes):

Yeah! That is it, I really like the drop menus nice going on that.

If I might make a another suggestion to try, a little strange perhas though, maybe round the bottom corners of the gray area with the value display and plug logo, just so its slightly different from the other square boxes. My thinking is everything expands from that focal point a slight rounded corner there would really make that more so as well as define it as a specail case area.

Really like how this is coming along. Its starting really have a nice character, vintage touchs but not overwhelmingly vintage :D

This going to be a strange post…
So after a few hours of experimenting and trying to get some experience with how I can manipulate the primitives I think I have something that doesn't look that bad, I'll have to continue my efforts with Skinman. I have had trouble sharing my GUI's with Reaktor users because I do everything in PHS, I think it might be really cool to use Skinman as people will have greater access to it (sorry for mac users though).

I hope to offer these up as templates like I have with knobman to re-arrange for ones own purposes. Leslie's post really gave this more focus for me then I have had in the past. After a few tries, the past 2 widgets I posted and this pic, I have to admit that I do like Skinman much more then I did before. I still find certain things very difficult to accomplish that I could do in PHS easy, and there are certain limitation that I have found difficult. None the less Skinman is wonderful and has some amazing potential. I really hope that g200kg will continue his work on this when he is ready.

So as far as offering this to people to use for app's like Reaktor 5, whats missing? Have the skin, knobs switch, fader. Wonder if there is anything else I need to add besides a horz fader. I figure since the knobman file is include Knob sizes are not as important they should be adjusted to taste.

Perhaps the above upload is to stylized locking it to a particular background and not allowing for much flexibility...maybe it should be different so that it is more like Legos, just with pre-arranged sets of a primitives that are easier to edit, focusing more on a color scheme with a matched panel elements (knobs fader swtiches etc)that work well leaving overall style to those that use it.

perhaps uploads like this would be more useful...?

Or the format that I was working with, offers more but is difficult to edit to personal pref.
