I agree... I can get sounds I like out of the shapers, but I would like to see it have more versatility to cover distortion/overdrive type sounds better.justin3am wrote:When you compare it to something like a Doepfer A-116 Waveform processor or similar wave shapers it's actually pretty powerful. It's not great as a typical distortion/overdrive/clipper but when you run it in parallel with the clean signal to a filter it really helps fatten oscillators up in a gritty dirty way. Thats my approach to getting those really gritty Roland SH series sounds anyway.pdxindy wrote:Yeah, the shaper/distortion is the weak part of Zebra for me.Mighty Pea wrote:

I'm still not terribly impressed with the shaper/distortion in Zebra, but the 'strong' compressor model with zero attack and decay is fantastic.
any sign of Zebrify or Uhbik X?

I agree entirely. I like the shapers, but I miss something more extreme or versatile. I suppose something similar to Imageline's Waveshaper would please everyone, but that's outside of the scope of Zebra, I imagine.

Just wait and see... no promises for Zebra 2.5 but I got quite some left over distortion code...

Urs, I know you're a very busy man and I know you've already said that you're not really interrested with a distortion plugin at the moment. But maybe in the future? I was looking to get Ohmicide because I want some distortion with feedback.
Should I wait for a possible u-he plugin?
Also, any new ETA for Uhbik-G and X?
Thanks Urs!

I'm very interested to where you go with this. I assume that the shapers in the main section of Zebra work on a per voice basis, correct? The V-Synth has Cosm blocks that work per voice and I've got to say that the biggest let down is how amp models and distortion sound when used that way. Subtle wave shaping seems to do the job a lot better without turning the wave form to mush. When I try to use the per voice distortion on the V-Synth, I always find myself wanting a per voice EQ to go after it (which the V-Synth kinda has but then you've used your two Cosm blocks). I guess that is the benefit of the modular nature of Zebra.Urs wrote:Just wait and see... no promises for Zebra 2.5 but I got quite some left over distortion code...
For what it's worth, I find myself gravitating to the drive on the LP vintage2 a lot lately only to wish that I had the ability to feed the output back into it.

There's a whole lot of things going on here, mostly restructuring for more efficiency (read: outsourcing every possible angle of the business that I don't necessarily need to work myself, including having a studio/office with co-workers). Once that's done and once the 64-bit stuff along with a depressing list of niggles/bugs are fixed, I'll start dealing with Uhbik-X and Filterscape. I also have to do a bit of work on Tyrell N6 first (almost finished apart from a little bug) and I might have to release Berlin Modular before Uhbik-X in order to keep afloat.djones wrote:Where's Uhbik-X?
Any update on a release date?
Hence it's impossible to give a deadline and I highly regret I ever mentioned Uhbik-X anywhere - even though it was always part of the concept (which was before I realised how difficult it would be)

No worries man. Uhbik is an amazing set of effects for an unbelievable price, even without Uhbik-X. It's cool that you plan to update the bundle with even more cool stuff but I value what you've done as-is. Then take into consideration the fact that you've been letting us use a synth as powerful as Bazille for free for the past year and a half...Urs wrote:Hence it's impossible to give a deadline and I highly regret I ever mentioned Uhbik-X anywhere - even though it was always part of the concept (which was before I realised how difficult it would be)
You're a stand up dude. I think that even large companies with project management staff slip schedules sometimes, and most aren't open enough to let us users know what's going on behind the scenes. I appreciate that candor.
No need for regrets. Life happens to us all.
