And the winner for the strangest bug I've ever seen...

Okay, here is a strange one that is totally replicable...
In FLStudio 8.5 Beta, if I open an instance of Alchemy, *then* open an instance of Zebra 2.3.2, Zebra sounds like it is being run through a bitcrusher. No other synth sounds like this if Zebra is replaced (So far, Massive and Surge sound fine).
However, if I delete Alchemy from its track, and then restart a new instance of Zebra (on the same track the bitcrushed Zebra originally was on), the sound on Zebra goes completely back to normal. I tried different "Renderer" settings with 2.3.2, but the sound stays the same. This happens to all presets, and any sound coming out of Zebra. It's really, really strange.
I didn't know which forum to post this on (Camel, here, or Image-Line), but I figured I would post it here since Zebra is the only one acting up.
I'm on my laptop, so specs are odder than usual.
Vista 32-Bit, 2 Gigs RAM, AMD Turion 64 X2, and I'm using ASIO4All (I didn't have any space to bring an interface with me).

And more randomness, if this helps.
If I open an instance of Zebra, then Alchemy, then another Zebra, both Zebras sound fine. However, if I delete the first instance, and replace the second instance, the new second instance goes haywire.

Shouldn't be a prob with Zebra... really... it's been developed on a multiprocessor machine with just that in mind...Cyrosis wrote:Try disabling the multi threading for either or both of those plugins in their wrapper options, just a guess.

Sorry, went out to buy some wine! I'm back so I'll test this out now.
Edit: No, changing the threading settings on the wrapper doesn't fix this. I'll prepare the mp3.

okay here we go.
one more strange thing: if I open another instance of zebra in addition to the broken one, the second instance works while the first one stays broken.

I haven't used a file share service before, so I hope this one is decent.
The first two notes is working Zebra, the second two are broken Zebra, and the third is Alchemy. All are initialized settings.
edit: holy crap that site sucks. sorry for the pop-ups. the link is hard to find, towards the bottom. I can upload it to somewhere less suck-tastic, if you know a good place I don't have to sign up for.

Highly interesting. Sounds like Fruity gives Zebra some 1024 sample buffers but then only uses 512 samples of that. Something along these lines...
How's it in other hosts?

You're going to hate this.
The same thing happens in Renoise, although it doesn't sound as wholly awful.
However, it works fine in Live 7.

Yes, but FL wasn't, and I've had similar issues with various synths interacting with each other in this way. Though I see he tried it, and it didn't help anyhow.Urs wrote:Shouldn't be a prob with Zebra... really... it's been developed on a multiprocessor machine with just that in mind...Cyrosis wrote:Try disabling the multi threading for either or both of those plugins in their wrapper options, just a guess.

Did you download the latest beta of FL. It has some bugfixes related to zebra 2. So before you send urs on a ghost hunt, I suggest you try that version, and also report the bug to the FL guys, because my gut feeling is that it's a small thing they've missed.

I'll try this in Renoise when i get home from work. Haven't noticed this yet tough, i'm working on a song with 3 Zebra instances and 1 stringsynth instance.
*edit* my specs are roughly the same as yours, Vista 32 etc... I'll post if something weird happens.

If anyone can recreate this in Renoise, I'd appreciate a project file sent to urs@u-he.com - is there an Alchemy demo? (I don't want to bother Ben if I don't need to)
No worries, I'm not going anywhere in a rush. The OP pointed out the environmental variables, and he has a workaround.Kyran wrote:before you send urs on a ghost hunt

Hi Urs,
Please check your PM's.
I've been using Zebra and Alchemy together in Logic for months. Never had a single problem. Must be host related ...
Peace,
Andy.
