I agree with emdot. BTW here's a new take on the martenot theme:

Been around a while, but MkII is a major improvement.

a mate of mine had the Yamaha CS30, and I loved it - one of those as a VSTi would be fab..

I used to have a request out for a Korg Delta, but tomg (or was it ugo ) made a super one :)

Oh, and a Bahn Sage would be most excellent.

The usual suspects would still claim it was a pale shadow of the real thing.

Now with improved MIDI jitter!

I believe someone did start making a virtual version (ironically enough), but it's not been released :(

Still the SMS2000 might be easier to take on :)

would have looked good, though...

It's not what you use, it's how you use it...

I believe it's now called PolyAna

Isn't that an emulation of something by Babya?

and I'm ready to give oral sex to any member of GForce if they give use a EMS VCS3 or AKS with a controller as Korg did with the MS20.
Just had a quick chat with Dave about this topic, after your generous offer he has just taken those two insts firmly off his list.

Yamaha VP-1 (Only two were ever made - I have an old Akai CD-Rom of samples from one)

Buchla 200e (his synths always had a unique sound)

Those are two expensive synths. I wonder if it is possible to emulate these synths.

Isn't it Yamaha VL-1 instead ? (ie the big brother of beloved VL7m  ?)

Never seen one in action. :?

VP-1 is Poly - I believe VL-1 is mono . There was about $35,000.00 difference in price. VP-1 makes some serious sounds. From what I recall, Yamaha set out to build the ultimate physical modeling synth. They started with strings - bowed and plucked. You should hear some of the string patches on this thing. The plucked stuff is tough also - sort of like Cube, but much better sounding - more detail. This thing was way ahead of its time, but it turned out to be too expensive to make at the time. They stopped at two. They were both sold and as far as I know, still with the original owners.

This has developed to a nice thread, thanks mates!

Btw., what about a virtual Roland System 700?

Cheers,
Andreas

I'd personally like to see some new synths with vintage sound, but modern handling (and by modern I mean comfortable and easy without harassment).

To properly emulate a "legacy" synth, wouldn't you have to have a schematic and therefore permission from the original manufacturer? From what I understand, Roland is not interested in allowing anyone to make virtual versions of their synths and Gibson, who owns Oberheim, says NO also. That knocks two wonderful brands right out of the box. Yamaha owns Arturia - don't they? I guess if anyone is going to make a VP-1 it will be those dudes. Doesn't a patent have a finite lifetime? Haven't any of these patents run out - or is there another factor that would allow the original manufacturers to still control the rights?
