hey lennard, I've been having issue with the arp in sylenth. this is while using the chord setting. when playing a simple midi note pattern as below with the 8th note arp setting it reacts differently after every 4 bars.

Image

the midi pattern has note changes that happen at the half note.. yet it alternates every 4 bars from playing it properly, to forcing the change onto the start of the next even note.

if you delete the lower note so that only one note plays at a time the issue disappears and it plays properly, but with the addition of more simultaneous notes playing it causes this thrown off behaviour.

If I could make one BIG request too for the next version of sylenth, it would be a wet/dry mix knob in the arp section to give it similar functionality to Vanguard's trance gate.

The other big thing I think sylenth is missing though is being able to modulate the ADSR amp envelopes.. like mapping the modwheel to open up the release time. Also being able to do the same but with delay & reverb wet/dry to make the sounds bigger via modhweel. V-station has this functionality perfect.

Yes, the arp will keep on playing its sequence as long as one or more notes are held. If you delete the lower note then the arp will stop at the end of the upper note and it will restart its sequence at the start of the next note. This is how the arp works. If you want it to play the same sequence as with the lower note pressed then you should make the upper notes overlap. If you want it to restart at the locations of the upper notes then you should cut the lower notes in pieces at exactly the same locations as the upper notes.

This is already implemented. You can do this by using the Step Velocity as a modulation source and link it to any modulation destination you like. You don't have to turn on the arp (in fact you'll usually want to turn it off because you want only the gating effect and not the arp notes). To create a gating effect use Volume A/B or Mix A/B as the modulation destination and turn the Volume or Mix knobs to 0. For an example of this technique check out the GAT presets in the factorybank (presets 76-83 for example).

it's definitely a problem with the arp. If I overlap the upper notes (this is chord setting remember) I will get a different sound. it's just a simple straight 8th note arp sequence.. it should (and does) play 8th notes as long as keys are pressed. The malfunction though is that it's treating the note changes differently every 4 bars.

This for example is the same sequence but playing 8 bars instead of 4. It's a very simple pattern.. and there is no different event after the 4th bar that should cause it to play the final 4 bars differently than the first 4.

You must try this out yourself and you'll see very quickly what I'm talking about. The arp is having a problem with accurately reproducing the note changes that take place when the sequence has note change that happens on the high hat before the kick, rather than taking place on the kick.

The arp plays its own sequence, not the midi sequence. That means any note changes that occur in between its own notes will be discarded and the notes will be aligned to the arp's own sequence. If you want note changes in between the arp notes you should turn off the arp and use the midi sequence to play the notes you want instead.

By the way, what preset or arp settings are you using exactly in this example?

It's definitely a bug with the arp. it plays the first 4 bars fine, then screws up the next 4.

try it out so you can see what it's doing.. this issue basically means I can't use sylenth for song parts that change note in time with the high hat instead of the kick. An issue for me because I like to do a lot of changes at the high hat before the downbeat rather than just boringly on the downbeat always.

look close at that image.. it's 8 bars long and is just repeating the same 2 bar midi arrangement. HOWEVER.. sylenth's arp decides to play back the second 4 bars differently than the first 4 EVEN THOUGH there is no changed event or reason for this behaviour.

as I mentioned before this is just using a simple 8th note straight arp pattern. So no holds, no changes, no transpose.

Here I uploaded the midi clip for you to try it: http://www.sendspace.com/file/874tuc

Just set the arp to 8th notes, chord setting, no transpose

oh, and curiously.. when you delete the continuous low D# note so that only one note plays at a time, the issue disappears.. so this may be a bug only applying to the chord setting.
