That's not gonna be a problem at all. I think Howie wants his Zebra in grey/orange anyway :)

I have also rendered a bunch of 3D-knobs for those who absoluetly dislike any vector graphics. It's not yet there though.

it's the excellent

Unempty Minima (Step One)

Do a search in the skin forum on reaper.fm. There's only a link to it in some other thread.

should become default skin in my opinion.. with a bit of de-cubaseation
I seem to remember rejecting that one as it had an awful transport bar - yours looks nicer than I remembered it - is that an updated version?

The shading and 3D work looks a bit amateurish.

It looks too much like standard-Photoshop-layer-FX-and-change-some-numbers.

Sorry, only my opinion.
I like the new look fine, but the important part is the improved organization and usability refinements.

It's a re-skin by user StepOne: http://forum.cockos.com/showpost.php?p= ... stcount=64

Oh. Hmmm. This doesn't really appeal to me, maybe due to its playfulness. There are massive problems such as the font overlay over the meters, and even worse, menus lapping into meter space (might be a problem with reaper rather than the skin designer). Colour coding every tiniest icon doesn't really help in such a gui. Less colour would be more. Other than that, the only "3D" within that ui are some pixel-size bevels and some gradients. This is very well done, but I'd rather call that 2D. I much prefer dln's Unempty Dark Horse skin for Zebra, where colour coding is done on module level and not in icon/knob space. Latter also has a more 3D-ish and "lickable" appeal.

Zebra's new gui is a very different approach. It's not lickable at all, your tongue would get stuck.

I'm also contemplating to add a true vector gui without any bitmap at all. I've recently added a rounded rect class for this purpose, and I'm itchy to write some gradient fills and maybe some shaders and stuff...

Cheers,

;) Urs

A true vector gui would be great - would that make it possible to scale it more finely?

Not really. But it could have a different default size.

I don't agree with you but i'm interested in the subject. Why is the Reaper skin more "right" than the Zebra one ?

It's interesting to see where this thread has wandered. When I'm using Z2 I find I don't "see" the interface when I'm tweaking. I think more about what sound component I want to change and then look to where that knob is (or try to at least). I'm actually much more interested in the fact that the OSCs now have little waves next to them than the choice of green. :)

It's worth noting that the .jpg is pretty heavily compressed and there are clear artifacts of that on it, that will really hurt the perception of fine edges and subtle shading.

Nothing fancy:

left: Inversion (PWM)
mid: Sync On/Off
right: Phase reset on/off & new "phase catch" mode

They are now however always visible, thus not buried in a tab. As is single/dual/quad... mode.

The layouts of all moduls have been critically revised for improved workflow. Especially the oscillators and the comb filters benefit greatly from new parameter priorities. But I have only finished half of the modules so far...

Now that I understand lickability can someone recommend a good LCD panel cleaner?
