Challenge/Response servers, basically the computer that dishes out a license file to you when you activate an application.

You're seriously asking that here and expect a sensible answer? ;)

Pertinent as that question may be, the KVR rules are clear. This is not a conversation that's going to be allowed to happen. Even if the CR servers had been shut down, which let's be clear, they haven't, piracy discussions are verboten.

Sorry.
Someone shot the food. Remember: don't shoot food!

All right all right.

Though I've stopped using Traction a long time ago (I did see this coming), I must say, I really feel for the people that continued using T3 in hopes of a revival. I particularly feel bad for the Mac users that got totally burnt by MACKIE/Raw Materials/ Loud Technologies! Shame on you Mackie !!!!!

I understand a company going belly up, I DON'T understand how Mackie had the balls to treat their paying/loyal customers like this. Not even a word from any Mackie representative in over a year. Absolutely rubbish!!!!!!!

Agreed. And personally I really don't see why it shouldn't happen - at least from a rational point of view (and I accept reason doesn't really come into it in a Capitalist economy). If it's not making money, if it would cost too much to develop further, but it is still of use to people then as far as I'm concerned it's a no brainer. Either that or give it/sell it cheap to a developer who will be more committed to it. All better options than just killing it - so wasteful.

This is a post from the Mackie forum from someone apparently with some inside-info. Seems like T may not be dead just yet.

"After speaking to my rep @ sweetwater I heard that Mackie has had trouble with its overseas plants...shut downs..retraining...so they haven't been able to rebound on their product availabitity
let alone support for software. The new owner showed up and assured them that the company was strong but was doing some regrouping. I don't know if this helps but I for one am considering Sonar as a backup plan. Who makes reaper? If mackie can't keep up how can theses smaller companies do it? "

Hey MM, not sure if it's a question of can keep as much as wanting to keep up. Let's not forget, every major host and most smaller hosts have come out with new releases this year. Sonar 8, Protools 8, Cubase 5, Acid 7, Live 8, Reaper 3 and so on. Even Reason is coming out with a new DAW just for Audio called RECORD (Who woulda thunk?). and Presonus is releasing what looks like an amazing product called Studio One (designed by the same guy that designed Nuendo).

I think all this talk is a moot point though, not like we didn't see this coming long ago. Let's face it, Loud Technologies is mainly a hardware company. They are going to focus on salvaging that end of their line before even considering T3.

Again it's all a moot point, T3 is discontinued. Time to move on to a stable host for those that haven't made the leap yet.

Bright side? I met a lot of friends here ! Had some differences with a few but that is a good thing, made for some fun conversations :)

That was the first thought came to me too...

I really miss the good old Jules days. :(

That said, Jules probably doesn't miss it at all.

But T3 is stable for me. I don't see any reason to change hosts until I need to, but I will admit, I've demo'd a few lately.
Sonar(ugh), Reaper 3 (mmm, maybe. it seems better than Reaper 2). I tried Podium a couple years ago and couldn't even make a sound with it. Does anyone know if its easier to use now?

Yes, it seems to be. It has improved a lot since a few years back. You should definitely try it.

But it's still pretty confusing. Make sure you try it with the manual or some kind of tutorial. I think every DAW should come with a "how to make a frakking noise" tutorial. Most of them make recording and playing back audio relatively simple, but (for example) Reaper requires you to know that an instrument is an effect. Then there's FL, which makes instruments easy but recording audio requires a PhD in Gology.

Sigh. Tracktion's just so nice (once you get past the filter terminology) compared to the others...
Surely there must be consensus by now...
