Not sure how much this matters in the grand scheme of things but I found this an interesting read here at the KVR forums if you're looking into a new DAW replacement. May steer you in the right direction, maybe not. Funny, I found absolutely no mention of Traction ANYWHERE !

Ah, but the all-famous RonC has composed, tracked and mastered a gazillion albums in less than a week using Tracktion alone!Gabriel_S wrote:Not sure how much this matters in the grand scheme of things but I found this an interesting read here at the KVR forums if you're looking into a new DAW replacement. I believe Ron has switched to Live a few months back. I tried it, bought it but never did grow on me. I'm sticking with Cubase. I love its GUI, super stable, easy as hell to use and will be around for a long time to come!Johnny Walker wrote:Ah, but the all-famous RonC has composed, tracked and mastered a gazillion albums in less than a week using Tracktion alone!Gabriel_S wrote:Not sure how much this matters in the grand scheme of things but I found this an interesting read here at the KVR forums if you're looking into a new DAW replacement. It matters nothing. Some software caters better to different genres. Top dollar artists who go on tour probably don't even mess with a DAW other than using them as a sketch pad. They have people to do stuff for them. They might turn a knob or 2 on a Pro Tools rig and that's about it. That's enough to call it an endorsement.Gabriel_S wrote:Not sure how much this matters in the grand scheme of things but I found this an interesting read here at the KVR forums if you're looking into a new DAW replacement. Every DAW app has a demo version and one should be smart enough to test them instead of relying on artist endorsements.

I have about a dozen of those Live Lite CDS. No matter how much I try Live I can't get into it at all.Gabriel_S wrote:Johnny Walker wrote: I believe Ron has switched to Live a few months back. Many Acid users thought Acid was discontinued because there was a big gap between 6 and 7. Could this be the same paranoia?Gabriel_S wrote:Hey MM, not sure if it's a question of can keep as much as wanting to keep up. Let's not forget, every major host and most smaller hosts have come out with new releases this year. Sonar 8, Protools 8, Cubase 5, Acid 7, Live 8, Reaper 3 and so on. Even Reason is coming out with a new DAW just for Audio called RECORD (Who woulda thunk?). and Presonus is releasing what looks like an amazing product called Studio One (designed by the same guy that designed Nuendo).
The basic bundle is still available from Mackie.

Artists don't typically cart their studio engineers around with them. There's a difference between live sound engineers and studio engineers.kitekrazy wrote: It matters nothing. I remember seeing a video of U2 circa HTDAAB which was them coming up with stuff on tour - and guess who was operating the laptop - the edge

Open source would be a dream come true imo. The cynic in me says corporate structure would rather bury it.aMUSEd wrote:Agreed. And personally I really don't see why it shouldn't happen - at least from a rational point of view (and I accept reason doesn't really come into it in a Capitalist economy). If it's not making money, if it would cost too much to develop further, but it is still of use to people then as far as I'm concerned it's a no brainer. Either that or give it/sell it cheap to a developer who will be more committed to it. All better options than just killing it - so wasteful.

Yes I'm sure it would - that unfortunately is the nature of the beast - but it's bloody stupid and backward all the sameModuLR wrote:Open source would be a dream come true imo. If Mackie is in such a financial bind, wouldn't it be to their benefit to sell the rights to Tracktion to someone who would actually continue developing it? Surely they could make some money on it. And if they have no interest in continuing development of Tracktion, what do they have to lose? Tracktion is such a great software IMO, that I can't see another developer not wanting to take over the reigns. Heck, even if it had to be renamed....who cares. There is just too much potential, to not persue it IMO.

I've been looking at LT and they are in trouble. In 2007 they lost 36 million in investments and 1.7 million in equity. Net income was down 12.5 million. By the 3Q 2008 they had lost almost 24 million in equity and 23.5 million in net income.flamin-gitaur wrote:If Mackie is in such a financial bind, wouldn't it be to their benefit to sell the rights to Tracktion to someone who would actually continue developing it?
In March NASDAQ delisted LT. LT's stock was suspended on March 03, 2009 and has not traded on NASDAQ since.
