well, that explains allot imo

ampeg is a bass thing, but in the "consumer" end there hasn't been any real improvements in years

crate is not considered to be a guitarist first choice :hihi: Their fine for some, but I always felt like they were coming up with new amps faster than the tech......probably not explaining myself well here......but for whatever reason, when a crate "anything" comes out, I don't exactly jump for joy....

Mackie: (sigh) when I was still doing live shows, it was important to have a mackie board (1604 vlz was my weapon of choice for small/medium gigs) and the mackie control for DAW's was (and probably still is) brilliant. But it's a "what have you done for me lately" world. Tracktion was a BAD investment imo, remember all the ad's for T2? Man, that must have cost amazing sums of cash.....and how big was the market? They had a following, but it wasn't like the whole world was just waiting for T2 like the community might have thought. And T3 was not exactly anything groundbreaking.

I don't think the buck stops here either, I think that we are just starting to see the first of a long line of products, lines, etc, being in trouble or fading completely.

I don't know what went wrong with Loud but somewhere they messed up. It looks like that 36 mil of lost investments really hurt. Most small companys are privately held and you can't get any info but it's not all that bad from what you can find out.

For example, Yamaha Music, Zoom and Creative are off by fractions. Beringer, Twelve Tone (Cakewalk), Fender and Roland are up. So... mostly, so far so good.

OTOH Sales are down industry wide 20% so everyone is takings a earning loss. From what I can gather retail sales over all are down about 15% so it's not far from the national average. OTOOH 20% is a huge cut we'll have to wait and see how this all pans out.

If the recovery drags on this will naturally start looking a lot worse. An interesting note is that pizza sales have gone through the roof, increasing by as much as 35% in some locations. It looks like people are staying home.

well, not to get all off topic but there are two things that hurt the most in long run, and will trickle.....

houses (way down, and boy, don't I know it!  )

gas. People forgot what it was like to pay 40 bucks for a fill up on a compact.....here we are again. It's about 2.95 a gallon here again, and it is just going up up up UP!

If something doesn't get done soon, there will be a higher degree of our favorite companies having problems.

You don't live in FL do you? :-o

There are people raffling off their houses 'cause they can't find buyers or jobs. Unemployment hit 9.6% in FL. The sunshine state is in almost as much trouble as California. I think I'm a lucky dog to be in Huston.

Texas is doing just fine despite the rest of the country going to hell in a handbag. Unemployment here is at 5.9% and rising slowly. Even though property sales fell 24.3%. Property value only dropped 5.8% in the last 12 months. Some of those homes in FL lost 60% of their value.

US unemployment hit 9.4%. If it hits 10% congress better watch their asses. Traditionally 10% is the tipping point where people don't care who you are they want someone new and you're out.

Nope all cali

Luckily my house is paid for (435,000) but it's worth 300,000ish.......it's bad. and gas........here we go again............it's be 4+ soon enough........ depressing......

House prices are irrelevant or, more accurately, relative. If your house is currently worth 20% less than it cost you, so is the one you want to buy. Whether or not you have a job and can afford to buy anything at all, is another question.

BTW, unemployment here (Spain) is running at 20% - you guys have a long way to go ;) .

The US consumer boom was predicated upon the idea that ones house is the ATM that never says "insufficient funds."

I can't argue with the first one, the second one is equally true for any host for someone out there, 'easy as hell' is an opinion that doesn't mean anything to someone else and the last one might be true but then again it might not be.

Absolutely Slacknote. I can only speak for myself and in no way am I trying to convince artists to switch to cubase, reaper, sonar or anything else out there. I just saw this coming a long time ago and decided to make a switch way back when. Cubase at 1st was extremely intimidating but I loved the concept and kept at it. Once you get to understand it's work flow (as with all the other hosts), it does become quite simple to maneuver around in. I am able to do tasks just as quickly in cubase as I did Traction at this point which is a wonderful thing. There are so many hidden treasures to be found ;)

As for the last comment ...well, nobody can really foresee the future, especially in these times, but with that said, I have a lot more confidence in the future of Cubase than I do that of Traction.

Oh no we don't.. In 1932 it was 23.6%. Since 1948 the highest unemployment was 10.8% in 1982. At 10% we start tossing all the politicians out on their asses.

As I typed up somewhere else:

I've been using Cubase since version 1.03 on an 386 all the way through SX2. I thought I still liked it, it was my first love after all and pondered moving back to it now T is supposedly dead.
I installed SX3 and cor blimey was I in for a surprise, I bloody hate it now, there is now way I am going back to it after having worked with T1, 2 and 3.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

But I also would like to add:

1) If I had know everything back then I'd have stuck with Cubase.
2) Ideally I should be able work with all of them.

Fair enough. I think everyone should use and stick with a host that they are comfortable with :)

not tracktion related but the newer ampeg stuff is crap...look how much the pre-L.T. gear is going for used now...no one including me wants to spend money on the newer ampeg stuff..they let the quality go down while keeping the prices the same. really sad all the way around...IMO

Post

I can't say I am surprised if Tracktion is gone for good. It looked that way for an uncomfortably long time. Also if this is anything to go by...

In March NASDAQ delisted LT. LT's stock was suspended on March 03, 2009 and has not traded on NASDAQ since.
...then Tracktion was on very shaky ground for more than a few months.

But T3 is stable for me. I don't see any reason to change hosts until I need to, but I will admit, I've demo'd a few lately.
Sonar(ugh), Reaper 3 (mmm, maybe. it seems better than Reaper 2). I tried Podium a couple years ago and couldn't even make a sound with it. Does anyone know if its easier to use now?
Couple of years ago? Podium is much easier to get into now.

Have a look at this recent getting started guide, it should help.
