Hi,

I'm thinking about buying AAR, but I see that there haven't been any updates since February 2007. Is the software still being developed ? Not that I buy something that is discontinued...

Thanks for the help

As far as I know it's still supported. As for being developed, it's a finished product and it's bug free in my experience.

So what about the long time announced update (10 months?) to the AAR? Is it still in the making? Will it introduce more flexibility in terms of shaping the early reflections for example? Any news/hints about the development? In times of audiodamage's eos and redline's reverb the AAR has strong competitors so that's what makes me think.

Both of those reverbs currently surpass AAR, IMO.

Well, I think AAR still sounds very very good in comparison, and I can only judge by comparing to the 112dB reverb so far. While 112dB has the ability to sound even smoother than AAR (something that was AAR's main advantage), AAR has the ability to sound wider, more open, more like a real space than a wash of noise in the reverb tail. But what's so nice about the 112dB reverb, you can actually hear how the early and late "parts" of the reverb interact in a smooth analogous process, whereas the AAR sounds more like "early+late" (on a very high standard of course).

And then there is the Eos. Judging it by the audio examples rather than testing it is always a bit unfair. But the piano example is just so damn gorgeous and the tail moves so beautifully and vanishes so Lexicon-like that I think I won't be able to resist to buy it in the end.

Never the less I'm sure that AAR could deliver both the qualities of 112dB reverb and Eos, but it's all under the hood - unless the developers would make the more specialized features changeable by the user. I mean why not?!? And as the AAR is waiting for an extensive update I thnk we can hope for more features.

I have it. The audio demos are faithful to the actual results.

Yeah, I'd have to disagree with vespers75's assessment too. They're all different, with their strengths and weaknesses. Again, probably up to taste and what you expect from a reverb.

Spending some time testing each of these side by side is quite illuminating, if possible.

I guess it depends on your needs and style of music to an extent as well.

Indeed it does! :D

I just found that, comparing them, AAR had strengths that I'd forgotten about. But Eos is just absurdly good for the money. Then again, it doesn't have anywhere near as many algorithms as AAR, so...

Mouth-watering news...

i'm wondering about the update as well. i purchased AAR a while back, and i really like it...but all these other reverbs keep coming out, and AAR seems to be left in a dust a bit. no updates in 3+ years is a reason for concern, unfortunately.
