Come on now, I have to spell it out? It's not that you took a swipe at the "grinning idiot". You implied that his remarks where a sign of being an American. That's lame. It's not a typical American view. Only those that don't live here believe that.nuffink wrote:And what is it that we're as at fault about? A bit like when he invented the information super highway.UncleAge wrote:Pretty arrogant considering the UK is every bit at fault as the US. Lots of money travels across the pond to the UK. But don't let that stop you waving your silly little flag at me.
Al Gore is not one of my heroes. But he didn't jump on the wagon late. He was interested in this issue for quite some time before he became VP. And I don't fault him for bringing the topic back to the forefront of conversation, regardless of motive. No one else was giving the topic more than a few minutes on talk radio.
And you're being quite hypocritical when you hail from the UK and accuse others of waving their little flag. It was your country men who spanned the globe placing little flags in everyone's back yard claiming they had "discovered" that land and claimed it for <fill in the blank>. So funny. Keep it coming though. I like that British wit

Maybe you should have a little look at what I wrote to eduardo immediately before your fascinating intervention in this thread. After that feel free to carry on proving me right.UncleAge wrote:Come on now, I have to spell it out? It's not that you took a swipe at the "grinning idiot". I can't deny the reality of your assessment. To be fair, though, I think at least of some of it started when John Winthrop, a Brit as you know, declared the colonies to be a city on a hill. It just got worse from there. This became manifest destiny, a ludicrous concept that many Americans unknowingly believe ("the greatest country in the world").nuffink wrote:I'm well aware of that. But your thickos are so much louder, cockier and proud of their ignorance than ours. So you'll have to forgive the generalisations.eduardo_b wrote:Not all of us. It's no wonder, though, that Europeans think many Americans are arrogant, self-absorbed and clueless.nuffink wrote:It's always refreshing to see the most rapacious, greedy people on the planet living in denial.
It has been my observation that while not all Americans are loud and cocky, those that are certainly stand out when seen wandering about Europe. Without exception, the noisiest group in any restaurant in Europe is always made up of Americans, much to the embarrassment of the rest of us.
It's really a country with some very good qualities, but the downsides are equally unfortunate, I'm sorry to say. A little humbleness would go a long way, IMO. At least we voted in Obama, which I think gives us hope for being part of the world community again.

You mean this "your thickos are so much louder, cockier and proud of their ignorance than ours"? So you make a point and it's logical, rational and mature. Others make their point and all of a sudden they are loud and cocky? Hmm...that's pretty special...nuffink wrote:Maybe you should have a little look at what I wrote to eduardo immediately before your fascinating intervention in this thread. And yes it was a fascinating intervention. So much so that you couldn't resist responding.
Goodnight.

this thread is just like the great pacific waste dump, a large dump of useless garbage.
Here's what's learned, tracktion is in trouble, and it remains to be seen what the final word will be on it (though it's not hard to draw suspicions) and, that regardless of the thread, it can get out of hand quite easily.
Lock?
