working on this as well...trying to figure out if I want the casing around the tube or not. Will ahve to do a good deal of editing to control the colors within a certain limit without it.

Nice, nice.
And I have the next strange idea already. What about some steampunk? Look here and you see what I mean:

(scroll down and click the pictures - that's an analog step sequencer with a hand made brass panel that took those guys two years to build)
That reminds me of this: http://www.gizmowatch.com/entry/steampu ... damnation/
I'd wish to have a talent for that....

saw this type of stuff last year, do a google on this there is some really cool stuff out there. I was never really able to come up with an instrument of Fx to apply a skin to so I never developed anything. Its good fun but I think PHS and GIMP are more suited to this as you can use paint brushes, blend modes, etc etc. That doesn't mean that skinman is out but certian layer my need to be exported in order of accomplish certain things, best thing is you can bring it back and get it just he right size in Skinman. I would certainly love to see you take this all the way, its really cool way of present a GUI iwth different angle. I felt waves' meserati collect had steampunk and though I've never used the plugin I think they are really unique GUI's that deservenovaflash wrote:steampunk ? never see/ear about that!

heres a few patterns that might help if you want to create some engraving type of backgrounds or other. They are .png images so you have the alpha layer. You will however need to crop them so the repeat works they way you want it to, if you want a repeat.

with regards to the above stuff..is it possible to add text, and make it look like its carved or engraved on the layer underneath?
(i cant try right now, but its something ive often thought about but never tried..bad memory...im old)

Try some text that's a bit darker than the background color, add some insideshadow and maybe a touch of transparency for that layer could do the trick.

It also very easy to make one's own brushes in PHS. I have done it often but most of them are intend form creating damaged looking surfaces etc.novaflash wrote:There is a ton of free resources on the web,
i've googled recently "photoshop brushes" with success.
Generally bitmap type, it's a bit more difficult to find vectorized format.
as far as they upload, I did it with .png so that it would it would have best range of application to those that dl them, so that they could be loaded into skinman without messing up the background they can always be saved as .bmp from there.
should work in PHS ok
