Hi,i have a question about mulab free: can i play more vsti instruments
together and record them (on different tracks)?
e.g. If i launch sinthia on rack 1 (midi channel 1) and on rack 2 multisampla (always on channel 1) i can't play two vsti together:i hear always one. Please, can you help me?

You could create a MUX patch in which you route the Event Input to 2 (or more) synths:

Then playing this MUX with your MIDI keyboard will play the 2 synths together.
Recording will come on 1 track though, but you can copy the recording to another track if you want.

Just to step that through.
It's a two stage process: performance/recording and mixing.
During performance, all your MIDI input goes through the MUX as per Jo's picture. Once you're happy, you record your MIDI performance as usual.
This gives you a single track of MIDI events, routed to the MUX which, if played back, will sound like your performance.
If you want to mix this as one track per instrument, set up the instruments from the MUX each on its own rack, point a track to each rack, copy the MIDI performance to those tracks and then mute the original track.
When you play back now, you hear the original performance but you have separate tracks/racks to monitor and mix on.
(Or you could do the mix inside the MUX by adding channel strips after the instruments.)

Strange.
In the MPA, I'd have thought you could just route an Event Input to multiple racks and have the events go to all the racks. No go.

However, as I'm using the test version, I've got the MIDI Channel Splitter plugin. Putting this in between Event Input (actually, you don't need the Event Input there at all) and the racks got the right result (although I only wired up one channel for test purposes):

Keep MIDI Channel Splitter focussed.

In the MPA, I'd have thought you could just route an Event Input to multiple racks and have the events go to all the racks. No go.

How, normally you don't need the channel splitter for that.

Because MIDI Input is internally routed to the focussed target plugin.
(or whatever you defined in the "MIDI Input Targets" dialog)
If you want to layer synths or racks, best to use a MUX.
Or alternatively you could insert a "Patch Point" in the MPA, hook up several synths at its event output and then target that Patch Point.
This will also spread the incoming events to all plugs connected to the Patch Point's event output.

Using MU.LAB 2.5.x, just insert a MUX, switch to its Deep Editor and plugin the synths you want to layer as i've described in my first reply in this topic.

I've found an other easy way for layering:
Simply plug into the first slot of a rack a "send" to a second rack.
Usually "send" is placed after an instrument plug in, but used in this way, the midi events are sent before entering into the instrument slot of the first rack
(in this case the little yellow "amount" controller in the send plugin is without function). Then plugin the second rack a second instrument vst.
