I think that's a good point, and one that's not made often enough.
I believe this to be the root of Tracktion's initial spread (demo limitations notwithstanding), particularly the NFR before T2 launch.

If you build it, they will come, if they don't have to climb over an insurmountable wall to see whether or not your building's any good at all.

I certainly have played with Reaper for this very reason - because it was accessible, small and didn't install any annoying dlls or registry keys in the process.
And while it didn't work out for me, I'm certain many find it's old-school UI usable-

Love how your studio is shaping up... I'd likely be happy with Windows Sound Recorder if I had such a nice space.

To my knowledge, Tracktion 2 was sold only as a download. I believe T3 is the first for box distribution. Maybe they are going to ditch the box version. I think it would be interesting to see the difference in sales of Live, FL, Acid when it comes to download distribution to boxed sales.

Sometimes it's better not to have half assed versions of 3rd party stuff and just only the product. That stuff looks good on paper but when you install it you find major disappointment and a bloated hard drive.

I thought they would pull some last minute move to try and sell it to somebody.

I guess I won't have to check in anymore, it's too bad.

I got Acid Pro 7 when someone here suggested it to me here. Later, someone on the board mentioned Reaper. Although the name is.......... The product is better than Acid Pro 7.

I have used it in demo mode for almost a year within which they have constantly sent updates.

After almost a year with a fully enabled version they are asking everyone to buy. They went from $50. to $65. to $60. I will buy it just for Cockos being the "nicest" guys in the DAW world. Who would do what I just mentioned.

I have used it so much without it crashing it seems to be bulletproof.

I really am not happy with products I buy unless they perform flawlessly even though I don't.

These guys are way over the top. The interface is great, it picked up all my loops, Plug in's, even Celemony's Melodyne which Sony refuses to work on to make it compatible with Acid, ridiculous.

Well, have fun and catch you in the future if not, the pasture.

By the way, I ran into the best version of Peg Steely Dan ever recorded.

I've been using Steinberg for over a year now and love it but I also have my eyes set on the new Sequencer from Presonus "Studio One". Sure looks tempting at this moment and may just be a nice replacement for Traction

Just checked in to see how my old DAW was doing...
And I am quite amused to see that the old debate is still going on whether
T is discontinued or not.

I changed to Mac and Logic a while ago, and can still miss the workflow of Tracktion.
But I will never go back to Windows again...

I was one of those people who picked up Tracktion 1.6 through the NFR options.

I really fell in love with it. I had started out in Cubase SX, but always had less than stellar hardware, so Tracktion's efficient handling of resources really was one of the big features that kept me coming back to it. The other was the work flow.

I have since worked a lot in DP 4,5 and now 6, ProTools 6-8, and Logic 7 and 8 (Studio). (as well as Cubase). but I still use my original T1.6 for a LOT of what I do. (mostly work with virtual instruments and orchestral mockups)
I just got the T3 UB for $99 and have to admit that even with T3's bugs on Mac, it is still the most comfy and the most efficient for me to use to create music. I might just eventually migrate to DP (or even Logic) if Tracktion is discontinued, but I will certainly miss it.

It has issues I wish would be resolved before it gets canned, but oh well. So sad.

I will still be using it for years to come. it is the DAW that fits best with my workflow.

I am working for a studio now, so I work in other DAWs but I still prefer Tracktion.
