Presets to VST directory, possible?

Hi all,
Is it possible to store Zebra2 presets in the VST plug-ins directory? On my box I have my VST plug-ins folder residing in my Documents folder, so that when I backup my user account all of my VSTs and presets automatically get included.
Also, I am unable to save presets unless I run Ableton Live as Administrator (inconvenient and I forget to do it), I guess because it's trying to store them in Program Files which is considered a restricted directory to user accounts? Another reason why it would be better if I could store everything in my Documents folder.
Finally, I noticed an issue where I went to save a preset and I included a colon : in the title which Zebra happily accepted, but the preset would not get saved. I guess because that is an illegal character for use in a filename? If so maybe there could be some error checking for that.
My system btw is latest Zebra on Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 32-bit, Ableton Live 8.04 and 7.14.
P.S. This VST is a monster!

I'm not certain it will help, but when you install Zebra. You should be given a chance to save the files to a different directory. It is during installation that your given a choice, on where to store your files. So try to install again. Just change the paths of where the files go.
Hope that helps.
I only use Zebra on my Mac, but my PC programs always give a destination choice on install.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
This is strange. Following your suggestion, I re-installed and it did give the option of where to install to, and it was already filled in with the path to my VST plug-ins directory. But it seems to just install some dlls there and that the rest of the stuff, presets and osc presets, etc, are installed under Program Files.

What MCnoone is referring to is that there's an option to put everything in the VST folder at the beginning of the install. The default install will put presets and other data into Program Files, as you've discovered.

Sorry, I took this option away from the installer because it caused dozens and dozens of support incidents. What you are looking for (and what MCnoone and ew mean) is the pre-installed solution for Receptor:

I'm working on a better solution for this though, like following Shortcuts and putting stuff into user space by default.
Regarding illegal characters, that's indeed a problem I also hope to address soon. Many characters that are allowed on MacOS X are not allowed on Windows, and vice versa. Thus it's also a problem of finding the right subset that will make preset sharing safe.
Cheers,
Urs

Yes! Just the other night I encountered this problem while trying to set up some kind of way to keep my U-he preset collections consistent between my Mac and Windows machines. (I realised that things were getting out of hand because I'd install some preset sets onto one machine and not the other and so from time to time I have to waste time getting them all organised again.) But it's tricky to do, because I did find some presets with characters that were valid on Mac OS X but not Windows and also, on the Mac it seems that preset collections are split between the system library (the default set) and the user library while they are all combined on Windows. Aaarrgggh. It's a mess!Urs wrote: Regarding illegal characters, that's indeed a problem I also hope to address soon. Anyway, as for the invalid character problem, maybe the preset name could be stored within the preset file itself (allowing all characters to be used) while the file name is the preset name transformed into a name using the safe subset of characters?

Hey...
I think i'm having the same preset folder issue and the pre-installed version is perfectly fixing it... http://www.zebrasynth.com/index.php?item=downloads thanks a lot URS
I couldn't find any registry value to change the deafult preset folder(actually i couldn't find any key or value at all concerning u-he)
wouldn't be possible the same procedure (or any other)for Filterscape?
it has exactly the same issue and is useless for me to move the content of the preset folder only for Zebra and leave behind the rest...
It would be really appreciated.

Yep, I'll add that to Filterscape as well.
I'm actually working on a concept here... we'll see...
